This right here is so important. We, as teachers, need to set aside personal philosophy for the sake of building on student assets. Manipulatives are just as good, if not better, than paper! Everyone deserves to be good at Math!

@mr_stadel This seems like a memorization issue to me. When we use words like “magic x”, the student isn’t understanding relationship with area. To me, this looks like the student chose numbers that multiply to equal 30 and add to equal -5 with little connection to factors. Algebra tiles!

@SurthrivEDU That was yucky! Maybe priority should be health, not money? Saw on the news this morning 75% of workers feel obligated to come to work sick. Just thinking how that stat transfers to student mindset.
