Thank you #PZAUS @RonRitchhart @FionaEvans20 for an energising day exploring Cultures of Thinking in Action.
We can have the toolset and the skillset but we must also advance our mindset (attitudes, beliefs and expectations) to incentivise our actions.
How cool this this webpage with short cuts for all the teacher things we can do on Canva...? PS - The webpage is made with Canva's new webpage feature. https://t.co/ugOTYYplyL...
My most ‘enjoyable’ recent reading for ‘pleasure’ moments have been non-fiction...eg ‘Dark Emu’; ‘See What You Made Do?’ Pleasurable? Not really. Transformative? Definitely. I hope I can pass on this ‘joy’ to my students.
Adoniou: not everyone reads for pleasure. Some people will never get lost in a novel. What if you re-frame it as learning something new or solving a problem? #PETAA2020
Writing = transformation of self, others, communities and systems. Grammar and skills only exist within the bigger end game. Fill students’ language repertoire through mentor texts to expand literacy repertoire - Dr Misty Adoniou. #PETAA2020
Great inspiration from Dr Misty Adoniou for teaching writing by maintaining the thrill and will to write. Purpose over structure. ‘Don’t let go of the ‘will’ and ‘thrill’ for the sake of the ‘skill’. #PETAA2020
Writing is will, thrill, skill. But how to get a thrill (or skills) when you're always given the same topic in your school career - e.g, why wear school uniforms. How can you grow when it's always the same stuff? How can you keep up your will for writing? #PETAA2020 - Adoniou
@mchurch_thinks @RonRitchhart We investigated collab/discourse using Google Ed/Seesaw Blog/Padlet etc while remote & social distancing with some success bridging distance b/w yr2 students and community for social, emotional & academic purposes. Challenged to capture same level of energy, connection & growth
@mchurch_thinks I learned how much students grow collectively in conceptual/deep understanding when the thinking of their peers is made visible. With less peer interaction I found that skills/knowledge were developed but opportunities for enduring understanding and connections were missed.
@jessradio makes accessible the uncomfortable truth of domestic violence and coercive control through meticulous research and powerful story telling. We must build a deeper understanding of the lived experience to make change happen. A must read. https://t.co/TiRvswqWiy
‘Unwitting undermining’. Am I turning a watering hole into a campfire? If I walk away and the thinking/learning stops, was I doing too much of the lifting? Thanks @RonRitchhart @mchurch_thinks for helping me to reflect on my role in #makingthinkingvisible#pzsyd
Thinking Routines/activities vs ‘making thinking routine’ for learners. Having all students engage in the thinking that successful learners do automatically. #pzsyd#visiblethinking
If you're here because of the quote about defining racism that's circulating, welcome, and know that it comes from a 2014 essay on my blog, which you can read in full here. #BlackLivesMatter
