Well, this aged poorly.

Gator declared Carney’s version settled fact and mocked anyone who questioned it. Now U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has gone on CBC and said the exact opposite: the U.S. did NOT introduce the last-minute demands Carney claimed. He says Canada came back with additional requests.

Commerce Secretary Lutnick goes further, saying they had a handshake deal and CANADA returned with demands Friday afternoon before walking away.

Does that automatically prove the Americans are telling the whole truth? No. Independent reporting suggests there were late changes and pressure on BOTH sides.

But that’s exactly the point.

Gator took one side of a disputed negotiation, presented it as unquestionable fact, and called everyone challenging it liars.

Maybe hear both sides before declaring you’ve discovered “the truth.”

That’s called critical thinking, not TDS.

If Trump is supposedly the reason Canada can't get a deal, explain this:

His administration has reached trade agreements/arrangements with the UK, EU, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Argentina, Ecuador, Taiwan and others.

Carney? Canada suspended negotiations without securing a deal with the country buying roughly 70% of our exports.

And spare us the “20+ trade and security deals” talking point. That does NOT mean 20 new FTAs. Even Carney's Indonesia FTA was negotiated from 2021-24 and concluded BEFORE he became PM.

Those are facts. Calling fellow Canadians “traitors” for questioning Carney and refusing to buy into the TDS-fuelled “Elbows Up” narrative isn't one.

If Trump can close deals around the world, maybe it's time to stop automatically blaming Trump and start asking why CARNEY couldn't close the deal that matters most to Canada.

Seeing through political rhetoric isn't treason.

Gina is right. If Jasmine Laine makes a claim and brings the receipts, challenge the evidence. Prove her wrong. Trying to discredit the person instead of addressing the facts is exactly the problem.

We need MORE independent voices willing to dig into government claims, question the narrative and show people the underlying evidence, not fewer.

For years Canadians have watched government messaging repeated almost verbatim by friendly legacy media while inconvenient facts get minimized, spun or ignored. Then when someone outside that ecosystem starts gaining traction, suddenly the problem is the person asking questions rather than whether what they're saying is true.

I don't care whether the information comes from Jasmine Laine, CBC, the National Post or some guy posting from his basement. Show me the evidence and I'll judge the claim.

More receipts. More scrutiny. More independent voices. Less government messaging masquerading as journalism.

Completely agree. Trolling at its finest, but it also exposes how badly these Canadian politicians overestimate themselves when they try to play Trump's game.

Carney built his political identity around “Elbows Up,” while Doug Ford, supposedly a Conservative, has spent far too much time playing Carney's tag-team partner and performing the role of tough guy standing up to the American bully.

Then Trump trolls both of them by signing a piece of paper renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America.”

The bully didn't take your lunch money. He took your fucking lake and renamed it with a pen.

Carney and Ford keep trying to beat a master troll with manufactured outrage and political theatre. Trump keeps demonstrating that he's better at both.

These guys built their brand around standing up to the bully. The bully just made them part of the punchline.

Sure, plenty of Canadians genuinely hate Trump. Carney recognized that TDS was politically useful, built a huge part of his campaign around it, and has kept feeding it ever since. People like Gator Gum help sell the distraction.

Trump doesn't govern Canada. He didn't set our immigration targets, federal spending, taxes, housing policy or regulations. He didn't spend the last 11 years running this country. The Liberals did.

Yet every time Canadians rage about Trump, they're not asking why housing became unaffordable, population growth overwhelmed housing and services, productivity and per-capita growth stagnated, taxes increased and everyday life became dramatically more expensive under Liberal governments.

And Carney's credibility matters. He has repeatedly made misleading or demonstrably false claims when selling his record and policies. Calling out Trump's bullshit while giving Carney's a free pass isn't critical thinking. It's partisan selective outrage.

Trump's policies can hurt Canada. Criticize him when they do. But blaming an American president for Canada's decade-long deterioration is an incredibly convenient political sleight of hand.

Make Trump the villain, sell Carney as Captain Canada, and suddenly 11 years of Liberal decisions disappear.

Trump governs America. Liberals governed Canada.

If you're looking for who bears the greatest responsibility for what happened to Canadians inside Canada, start in Ottawa, not Washington.

At what point are Canadians allowed to question where this is actually heading?

For years Liberals have blamed Trump for the deterioration of Canada-U.S. relations while increasingly selling “diversification” as the solution. Now Carney is openly forging a “new strategic partnership” with Beijing, expanding trade and pursuing Chinese investment in Canada.

This is the same Liberal Party whose former leader openly admitted having a “level of admiration” for China because its “basic dictatorship” could rapidly reshape its economy.

And concerns about the CCP are hardly conspiracy theory. Canada held an entire public inquiry into foreign interference, and our own intelligence agencies have documented PRC attempts to interfere in Canadian democratic institutions.

None of that proves Carney deliberately manufactured the Trump dispute to move Canada toward China. But it sure as hell justifies asking whether confrontation with Washington is becoming a convenient political justification for an economic realignment the Liberals already wanted.

Trading with China is one thing. Becoming increasingly economically dependent on an authoritarian state with a documented history of interference in Canada, while portraying our democratic neighbour and largest trading partner as the problem, is something Canadians should scrutinize very carefully.
