Congratulations to the previous MCPS Leader Dr. McKnight for the decrease in fighting and drug related safety incidents in our schools. Many of the increases in bomb, trespassing and weapons speak to gaps in the surrounding community safety that spilled over into our schools.

@SteveLim_DC @alanhenney @RealTimeNews10 I'm more than comfortable demanding adult chaperones for any youth under the age of 18 in high traffic areas for a number of reasons. One being their vulnerability! What we have seen has been our youth being victimized and used to victimize by bad actors. Supervision first.

This makes it highly likely that adult chaperones can be present to help kids make the right decisions about how they behave. Having been a teacher and led baseball community events, I know crowd behavior has to be taught and monitored for some ages and stages.

I find it disturbing that post-school hours and into the evening we excuse the need for chaperones, parental monitoring and expectations and instantly want to insert police.

@marclamonthill I'm still not seeing adults held accountable for youth charged with violent and adult-level offenses. It's odd that on a child's worst day they all of a sudden are not the responsibility of an adult who was on the previous day charged to supervise them.
