Tree planting plays a critical role in the economic success of urban and rural communities across Canada. In 2019, Forests Canada found that our tree planting activities contributed $12.7 million annually to the economy in southern Ontario alone and the value of ecosystem services derived from the trees we planted was conservatively estimated at $82.7 million annually.
Today, new research from the Canadian Tree Nursery Association reveals that Canada’s tree nursery sector generates $256.3 million in annual revenue, contributes $535.4 million to the gross domestic product (GDP), and supports 4,378 full-time equivalent jobs in predominately rural communities nationwide.
