@spiderman_115 @SnakeTheJake890 @leshka_eth Mostly because of the type of memory they use, it's faster and they have several times the capacity of a regular gaming gpu. If you work with AI models that exceed 32gb you can't train them with a 5090.
Bigger AI companies work with gpu servers worth $300k-500k per cluster.

@SnakeTheJake890 @leshka_eth This is a problem because they use this valuation as leverage to grow investment and borrow money. If they fail to make payments and get liquidated they will find out the company's worth is nowhere near what they claimed they were and they will start to go bankrupt fast.

@SnakeTheJake890 @leshka_eth Lots of AI companies are using their gpus as an indication of value: gpus are like $30k a piece and if they got lots of them in paper they are worth a ton of money.
The problem is that hardware devalues at an absurdly high rate, in 2-3 years they could be worth half as much.

@HardwareUnboxed You're confusing them, the 9040 will be available in 2gb and 8gb versions. The 2gb edition will be full 128bits gddr6 but the 8gb will be LPDDR4. It's gonna be called the RX 9040 FYE (Fuck You Edition).

@pencil_gang @PrayPop @StarCraft "Evil aliens" is subjective when you later learn that the zerg were lured into attacking a Terran planet by other Terrans using psi emitters. Like I said, in the SC universe no race is inherently good or bad.

@PrayPop @StarCraft I don't think you can play as any faction other than humans in Helldivers? Starcraft has always featured campaigns from every point of view so there's no straight up "good" and "bad" side.

@codadevstudios @InadimplenciaG You're missing the point. Nvidia claimed that DLSS 5 isn't a generative AI filter, that it worked behind the scenes on a much deeper level. The fact that you can enable it in any game and that it behaves exactly as a slop filter confirms that's what it is.

If they continued development it was either a backpedal on disc production or a breach of contract, so maybe Sony decided to drop it altogether.
