@freekev22 @MarvinDunn4 Thank you for this information. Slavery in Florida was different. Florida welcomed many escaped slaves and armed them in a militia. I have a long recovery ahead of me, so it will be a while before I am active.

While slavery apologists argue that “slavery was a long time ago,” remember this: Slavery was only two lifetimes ago. A person who is 82 this year was born in 1940. A person who was 82 in 1940 was born in 1858, before the Civil War and during slavery. @EdwardDoten

In Germany, teaching the Holocaust is mandatory. It includes visits to concentration camp, museums, etc. They don’t shy away from their own ugly history. Yet the kids aren’t damaged; they’re strengthened, matured, humbled. US needs to do same re slavery. Not that complicated.

@TheCountryBoys Yes. They are not at all the same. My great, great, great etc. etc. grandfather Edward Doten, who came on the Mayflower, was such an “indentured servant.” He was not nearly a “slave.” Those are very different. He was freed after several years, bought land, and conducted business.
