LATEEF OMOYEMI AKANGBE, SAN, JOINS DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE KADUNA BRANCH OF THE NBA FOR THE COMMISSIONING OF NEW BAR CENTRE AND OPENING OF LAW WEEK 2026
I had the honour of joining distinguished members of the legal profession at the commissioning of the Hon. Justice Muhammadu Bello Bar Centre and the formal opening of the NBA Kaduna Branch Law Week 2026.
It was inspiring to witness the unity, vision, and collective commitment that made the completion of this magnificent Bar Centre possible. Beyond bricks and mortar, the edifice stands as a lasting symbol of purposeful leadership, institutional continuity, and the shared determination of members of the Kaduna Bar to build a stronger and more vibrant legal profession.
I commend the leadership of the NBA Kaduna Branch, particularly the Chairman, Barrister Baba Lawal Aliyu, past leaders of the Branch, and all members whose dedication and sacrifices brought this remarkable project to reality.
It is also deeply significant that this Centre is named after Hon. Justice Muhammadu Bello, a jurist whose legacy of integrity, intellectual excellence, and service to the development of Nigeria’s jurisprudence continue to inspire generations within the legal profession.

I was delighted to join the distinguished Chairman, Executive Committee, and members of the NBA Keffi Branch at their impactful Law Week themed:

This theme is very timely and deeply significant, especially at a critical moment when members of our great Bar will soon elect leaders who must embody integrity, justice, service, and courage. As lawyers and ministers in the temple of justice, we must continually uphold the ideals that strengthen public confidence in our profession and promote peace within our society.
I sincerely commend the NBA Keffi Branch for putting together such a thoughtful and inspiring programme. Your commitment to the advancement of justice and the preservation of the noble values of the legal profession is truly commendable.

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE SAFE RETURN OF MISS EUNICE AMEH
I received with profound relief and gratitude the heartening news that Miss Eunice Ameh, the young legal practitioner and serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who was previously reported missing, has been found safe and unharmed.
This development brings immense comfort not only to her family, friends, and colleagues, but also to all well-meaning Nigerians who were deeply concerned by the disturbing circumstances surrounding her disappearance. Moments such as this remind us that the safety and dignity of every citizen remain matters of collective human and civic responsibility.
I sincerely appreciate the Nigeria Police Force, relevant security agencies, members of the legal profession, the media, civil society organisations, and countless concerned individuals whose vigilance, prayers, public engagement, and coordinated efforts contributed significantly to this positive outcome. The solidarity demonstrated throughout this period reflects the enduring strength of compassion and communal responsibility within our society.
I also commend members of the public who responded to earlier appeals by sharing information and amplifying awareness of her disappearance. Such civic responsiveness remains indispensable in addressing emergencies and matters of public concern.
While we give thanks for her safe return, this incident must also provoke serious reflection on broader concerns relating to public safety, institutional responsiveness, and the protection of young citizens, particularly women, in the course of their lawful daily activities. It is imperative that relevant authorities continue to strengthen preventive security measures and ensure that incidents of this nature are treated with the urgency and seriousness they deserve.
Above all, we thank Almighty God for preserving her life and granting her safe return to her loved ones. May this moment continue to remind us of the importance of vigilance, justice, and our shared humanity.

With this achievement, I become one of only two substantive Nigerians in the network, alongside Ayodele Akintunde, SAN, while Babajide Ogundipe, the first Nigerian member of the network, now holds the rank of emeritus member.
This appointment is a profound honour and a testament to excellence, integrity, and dedication in the area of complex dispute resolution and asset recovery. It also reflects the growing global recognition of Nigerian legal talent.

Thank you all for the goodwill and support.
ENUGU AWLA SPARK LECTURE
I was deeply honoured to join the African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA), Enugu State Branch, at their insightful Work Lecture on “Digital Technology in the Courtroom.”
As a panelist, I had the privilege of speaking on “Leveraging Forensic Techniques to Meet the Legal Demands of the Modern Courtroom: A Focus on the VAPP Law,” where I shared perspectives drawn from my experience as a litigator and legal practitioner navigating the realities of today’s evolving justice system.
Our profession is changing rapidly, and the modern courtroom now demands a better appreciation of technology, digital evidence, forensic tools, and innovative legal strategies to strengthen justice delivery and improve access to justice for all.
Beyond the enriching conversations, I was truly humbled by the warmth, acceptance, and overwhelming show of love extended to me by the distinguished women of AWLA Enugu State Branch. Their reception once again reaffirmed an important truth that leadership is not about gender, but about competence, character, capacity, inclusiveness, and genuine commitment to service.
I remain inspired by the dedication, brilliance, and contributions of women in the legal profession, and I strongly believe that the future of the Nigerian Bar must be built on collaboration, mutual respect, innovation, and purposeful leadership.
I sincerely thank AWLA Enugu State Branch for the honour, hospitality, and opportunity to share ideas on the future of legal practice in our rapidly evolving world. Together, we can build a stronger, more progressive, and more responsive Bar for all lawyers.

Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe SAN
Past Chairman, NBA Lagos Branch
Candidate, NBA Presidential Election 2026
I congratulate my leader and Egbon, Mr Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN (@yemi_akangbe), on securing his official clearance to contest for the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
I first met him about fifteen years ago when I joined the Young Members Group (YMG) of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Nigeria Branch) under his chairmanship. Since then, he has guided and supported me.
Twelve years ago, he offered me a job, but I had to decline because I wanted to build Abdu-Salaam Abbas & Co.
He genuinely loves young lawyers, and that is why I wholeheartedly supported him when he contested the Chairmanship of the NBA Lagos Branch. He excelled in that role, and his track record with young lawyers in Lagos is exactly the kind of leadership the NBA needs at the national level.
He’s my man any day, any time!
NBA BAUCHI LAW WEEK 2026
It was a great honour to join the distinguished members of the NBA Bauchi Branch during their 2026 Law Week and the official launch of the second edition of the Bauchi Bar Journal.
The theme, “A Stand Out Legal Profession in the Era of Artificial Intelligence and Codified Fair Legal Remuneration,” is not only timely but profoundly reflective of the realities confronting our profession today.
We are living in an era of technological renaissance where Artificial Intelligence is rapidly reshaping legal practice, client expectations, and even the administration of justice itself. As legal practitioners, we must not resist change; rather, we must position ourselves to lead it—with competence, ethics, adaptability, and innovation.
At the same time, the call for fair legal remuneration remains both urgent and necessary. A profession that demands excellence, integrity, discipline, and sacrifice must also protect the dignity and welfare of its practitioners. We must continue to build a Bar where professionalism is rewarded, young lawyers are empowered, and every member is given a fair opportunity to thrive.
I commend the Chairman, the Executive Committee, and the entire members of the NBA Bauchi Branch for hosting such a remarkable, intellectually engaging, and memorable Law Week. Your warm reception, hospitality, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of the legal profession were truly outstanding.
Thank you, NBA Bauchi, for the love, the meaningful conversations, and the shared vision for a stronger and better Bar.
Together, we will continue to build a Nigerian Bar Association that is more inclusive, progressive, and fully prepared for the future.

Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN Condemns Threats Against Members Of LOAN, Kano State Branch
My attention has been drawn to reports of threats of sanctions against members of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Kano State Branch, following the association’s decision to embark on an indefinite strike over unresolved welfare concerns.
Any threat directed at professionals for expressing grievances or pursuing lawful industrial action raises serious concerns in a democratic society. The use of intimidation or threats of sanctions in response to legitimate labour concerns undermines democratic principles, weakens confidence in public institutions, and is inconsistent with the spirit of the rule of law.
Public officers, including law officers in government service, are entitled to raise concerns about their welfare and working conditions through lawful and recognised channels. Such concerns should ordinarily be addressed through dialogue, mutual respect, and good faith engagement, rather than through threats or coercive measures.
That said, it is also important to recognise that the administration of justice is a critical public service. Prolonged disruption in the functioning of public legal offices inevitably affects governance, the justice system, and the wider public interest.
In this regard, I respectfully urge the leadership and members of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Kano State Branch, to honour invitations to the negotiation table and engage constructively with the Kano State Government towards a prompt and amicable resolution of the dispute. It is equally important that all parties approach such discussions with openness, restraint, and a willingness to make reasonable concessions in the broader interest of the public and the justice system.
Industrial disputes of this nature are best resolved through sincere dialogue, mutual understanding, and responsible leadership on all sides.
I remain hopeful that through constructive engagement and goodwill, a fair and equitable resolution will be reached without further escalation.
