Regarding the recent @TheOmniLiberal -@PiscoLitty - @hutchinson chatit’s extremely telling that all of the OG members of the Pisscord are in a separate discord community now and all agree on the problems with The Pisscord and his broader platform. Thread below. /1
WSJ is reporting that intelligence found on the bodies of dead Hamas fighters and digital surveillance indicates 1 in 10 UNRWA workers have significant links to extremist groups, including Hamas.
That is 1,200 out of 12,000 employees. The WSJ report goes on to say, HALF the employees have close relatives with official ties to militant groups, particularly Hamas.
Two things. First, this is according to Israeli intelligence, so it should be verified by other intelligence agencies. Second, we obviously should not suspend aid while 2.1 million people are displaced from their homes. Sorting out UNRWA is not that important while people are starving and living in tents.
But, assuming this report is generally true, it certainly lends credence to Israeli claims that UNRWA has exacerbated tensions in the region.

The great thing about watching @TheOmniLiberal and @ggreenwald debate is to realize that 'professionals' are just as silly and stupid as lay people. I'm embarrassed for Greenwald here.
A lot of younger people seem convinced that a communist revolution in the US would also lead to LGBT utopia. But, is that true? There's a lot of historical precedence suggesting communism is highly hostile to LGBT rights.
Historically, gay rights has been associated with Western decadence in communist societies, and therefore suppressed.
1. After the 1917 Russian Revolution and a period of liberation, Stalin took over and aggressively persecuted gay people. This continued through the Soviet era.
2. After the Cuban Revolution of 1959, Castro sent gay people to labor camps.
3. China, North Korea and Eastern Europe all severely repressed gay people as well. North Korea actually has an official policy denying that homosexuality even exists!
Moving beyond communist history, there's a lot of evidence that the power vacuums of drastic governmental swings reinforce mankind's most oppressive tendencies. The Iranian Revolution and Nazi Germany are just two of the most obvious examples.
Admittedly, there are counter-examples. The end of Apartheid in 1994. The transition to democracy in Spain in 1975. And most recently, the 2007 legal reforms in Nepal. But none of these are communist systems.
It seems to me that if you have to reach back to the 1917 Russian Revolution for evidence that communism is good for LGBT people, the fact that Stalin took over and violently oppressed gay people is very weak evidence.
I know it's less sexy to think about, but slowly working through the rule of law and engaging with our highly flawed political system has worked in the United States, leading to landmark cases like Obergefell.
In my view, political stability and organized efforts to change the law are a more effective tactic for LGBT liberation.
I laughed when moderate Republicans were apoplectic that their nutjobs were simping for Putin. "Get your house in order," I said.
Now that I'm watching our own nutjobs paint Hamas as pro-LGBT freedom fighters who want to build a secular state, it's not quite as funny.
Hasan did not take my interview well. Said its psychopathic to interview Ukrainians about what they think of his statements, threw insults, and said he was clipped out of context. No way he watched the interview.
Oh well
You can lead a horse to water, can't make it drink
Thing is, those of us that cover politics from a left perspective for a living will be JUST FINE during a 2nd Trump presidency. It’s not going to be us who will pay the price lol.
If Dobbs alone didn’t teach people that elections have consequences, I don’t think anything will.
Lots of leftists are going to just claim this was all made up, while a few more principled ones will grudgingly admit it's real but immediately demand that the topic shift to bad things Israel has done
I feel bad for Ethan. He's had his eyes opened and that kinda thing can be very painful. Hopefully he remembers this lesson though. The way hes been treated is super deplorable.
Not going to lie I’m rather upset. All my time as a Leftist I’ve held the position that criticism of Israel comes purely from their horrific treatment of Palestinians & the far right Israeli governments who’ve pushed apartheid.
Only to see many “comrades” mask off as antisemites
Don't worry about losing "friends".
If you want friends that last, have a higher bar for someone to be your friend in the first place. They should add substantive value to your life, bring out the better of you, and have a high degree of loyalty toward you. Most "friends" you think you have probably aren't worth your time anyway.
Better to have a small group of close friends you can rely on when shit hits the fan than a larger group of surface level dipshits good for little more than making the same cringey "clank our alcoholic beverages together" instagram story or other such non-creative ways to waste oxygen.
This time is an opportunity to see the friends you actually have, and build closer deeper and stronger connections to them.
