@PinstripeBungle@GMomurder There was a waiter a Susam Cafe in Cihangir for a while who had a gigantic swastika neck tattoo. I was there once when he was working and there was also a very uncomfortable German tourist who confronted him about it. Dudes response: Nazis were awesome
@PinstripeBungle We totally should have, and likely could have even at our level of inebriation. He had that wild confused look in his eyes that only truly dumb wealthy guys have. We probably could have ransomed him to his family. Missed opportunities
@PinstripeBungle Ha! I remember that kid, he was coyote fodder if I ever seen one, and I worked with a Mexican dude who got taken hostage by coyotes. The large Filipino sous chef went down with his guns and... got him back
They headed to the #worldcup2026fifa with an unprecedented level of nationalism (👇), and a cup song that radiated alt-right machismo in every line, now the Turkish team are on way back home without scoring a single goal so far. Song title: Turks are coming. Add "back."
Banjo my ass that's a mandole—unrelated to the banjo or the US—it's been around since the '30s—Dahmane El Harrachi played it—including on Ya Rayah, likely the most well-known Algerian song internationally thanks to Rachid Taha

@PinstripeBungle@ArchysLife These videos are obviously older, so maybe pronunciation has changed drastically over the past 30 years, although I doubt it
Also, since when has Salar music been rare—there's a shit ton of it online
Anyone honest with themselves has to admit: Turkey is one of the world's great nations.
The Ottoman Empire gave Europe a run of its money like few non-European empires ever have for hundreds of years. We have reports of Venetian diplomats in Constantinople praising the Ottoman Empire's meritocracy compared to Europe's aristocratic focus at the time.
As a bridge between Europe and the Orient, Turkey will always be unique and important. It's a gateway through which European ideas enter the east, and essential for us to understand that part of the world better.
Turkey deserves to become a free, democratic society with a justice system that one can trust. It is heartbreaking to see what Erdogan is doing to this great nation. It is time for the Turkish people to use their boundless patriotism to finally take their horrible government to account.
As a European nationalist, I will nonetheless oppose Turkey geopolitically, despite my respect: Cyprus deserves to be united and free and Turkish attempts to encroach upon Greek waters are unacceptable. But a European-Turkish detente can be reached much more easily with a free and democratic Turkey on one side and a powerful European Federation on the other.
Euro-Turkish squabbles will seem like Prussian-Austrian squabbles before 1871: Once things are settled definitely, we will have a close relationship.
@PinstripeBungle@DomTechnostate@daringlucile At this point, everything in the US should be named only after things Steven Seagal was involved with... Fort Maximum Conviction, Exit Wounds National Park, Against the Dark National Arctic Research Center
In the past 11–12 years I've worked as a Turkish to English translator, I've seen this formula in Turkish way more than I ever saw it in English, and that before all the chatgpt bullshit
Chatgpt çıktığından beri, özellikle son bir senedir,
"sadece.... değil, aynı zamanda..." kalıbının kullanımı çok arttı.
Oysa "not only... but also" kalıbı İngilizce'de yaygındır ama dilimizde bu kadar yaygın kullanımı yok.
Bence bu durum sadece metinlerin Chatgpt'ye yazdırılmasından değil, aynı zamanda yazan insanların Chatgpt'leşmesinden de kaynaklanıyor.
