NACOC Hands Over Seized Gold Worth \$1.7 Million to GoldBod in Major Anti-Smuggling Operation

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has officially handed over 17 seized gold bars, valued at \$1.7 million, to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) in a significant move to strengthen the fight against gold smuggling and illegal trade.

The handover ceremony took place at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra, following the interception of the gold by officers of NACOC’s Upper East Command at the Paga Border Post. The bars were being smuggled by two Burkinabe nationals, who have since been arrested and charged with offences related to the illegal transportation and trading of gold.

Speaking at the event, the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering support for GoldBod’s mission to regulate and safeguard Ghana’s gold resources. He praised the collaboration between state agencies in protecting the country’s mineral wealth.

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, expressed deep appreciation to NACOC and its Director-General, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, for their swift action and successful seizure. He emphasized the need for continued inter-agency cooperation to clamp down on smuggling and ensure Ghana reaps full benefits from its natural resources.

The ceremony was attended by top officials, including the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Doreen Annan, alongside senior representatives from NACOC and GoldBod.

Citizens are encouraged to support the work of national institutions by reporting suspicious cross-border activities. The protection of Ghana’s resources requires vigilance from everyone.
