Erling Haaland reminds me of Bob Hayes at the 1964 Olympics.
Hayes was the fastest sprinter in the world. In the 4x100 relay he came from well behind to defeat the Poles and French, winning by over 3 metres.
A French runner told his teammate, Mel Pender, "All you have his Hayes," to which Pender replied, "He's all we need, baby."
Same with Erling Haaland, and his Norwegian team.
@JornSundby Takk, dette har jeg lurt på i dag, visste jeg kunne finne svaret hos @JornSundby. Hvilket OL var sist det var så få nasjoner i herrestafetten?
Feb 14, Yared Nuguse on the LetsRun Podcast, one day after Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke his mile WR: “I don’t know if I’d go back and do the mile again. Feels a little petty.”
March 1, Yared Nuguse on IG: “Looks like I am that petty after all.”
Mile WR attempt is ON in Boston.
In 1989 Marcus O'Sullivan 🇮🇪 broke the 1500m @WorldAthletics Indoor Record during a Mile in East Rutherford but failed to break the Mile WIR
Same thing happened the previous year same meet but his 1500m time was not ratified as 3 of the 4 timekeepers forgot to stop their watch 🤣
The World Series is drawing massive TV audiences in Japan - bigger than in the US. But did you know that a 2-day, 10-hour road race attracts 4 times as many viewers as the World Series? Read about it here: https://t.co/sHvFbOXCpd
@atlegutt@PetterSkinstad Interessant! Vil kanskje si at også de to er relativt sett lite på TV. De konkurrerer ikke akkurat hver uke i sesongen. Ville trodd de hadde flere, men verden er tydeligvis større enn Letsrun 😊
Jakob Ingebrigtsen humbled by the half-marathon in Copenhagen but kudos to the Olympic 5000m champion for grinding on to the finish in 63:13 after a 27:27 first 10km.
Shades of Steve Ovett, who in his 1500m/mile heyday won the Dartford Half in 65:38 in 1977.
🗣️ “I have a pretty big engine. I used to run cross country. I put a lot of mileage in, a lot of stuff like that. So when I dropped down to an 800, 1500 runner before, and then I dropped down to the 400 and worked on foot speed and a lot of jumps, I always had the strength.”
You know what they say: Strength = speed 🤷♂️
After winning the 400m Olympic title, @QuincyHall400 shares that he actually used to be a cross country runner before dropping down to the middle distance events, and ultimately, the sprints.
