Pantami, Private Jets and the Quranic Test of Modesty
If it is true that Professor Isa Ali Pantami regularly chartered flights from Abuja to Gombe for political engagements at a cost reportedly running into thousands of dollars per trip, then Nigerians have every right to ask serious moral questions.
This is not just about money. It is about the image of a scholar, a preacher, a former public officer and a political actor who is expected to understand the weight of modesty, accountability and public example.
Qur’an 17:26-27 is clear in warning against wasteful spending. That verse is not only for poor people managing small salaries. It is also for powerful people, public figures, politicians and religious leaders who move around with influence while ordinary citizens are struggling with food, transport, school fees, rent and medical bills.
A chartered flight may be legal. It may even be privately funded. But legality does not automatically make something morally wise, especially when the person involved has built a public image around religious discipline, humility and service.
This is where the contradiction becomes loud.
How do you tell citizens to be patient, modest and God-conscious when political movements are allegedly wrapped in luxury that most of your followers cannot even imagine? How do you speak about sacrifice when one trip can swallow what many families may never earn in years?
Pantami has every right to defend himself, clarify the figures, explain the funding source or deny the claim if it is false. But until then, the question remains fair.
Ya Sheikh, leadership is not only what you preach.
It is also what your lifestyle teaches when the cameras are off.

I have been very close to PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU in over 32 years. We became closer in exile from 1995-98. After we returned to Nigeria from England, he became Lagos Governor for eight years and has locked down the state in the last 26 years. Rather than join his band of acolytes, I humbly decided to build a global brand and God answered my prayers, the reason I have been able to survive on my modest income. I have nothing personal against the PRESIDENT but a true friend should be able to tell him that he cannot hold Nigeria by the jugular like he did in Lagos. He should sell his achievements to deserve a second term and not by use of direct and subterranean Federal might... It is that simple...
NIGERIA UPDATE: ACCEPTANCE SPEECH by: GOV RAUF AREGBESOLA on appointment as THE INTERIM NATIONAL SECRETARY, ADC - The party platform adopted by the National Opposition Coalition Group - Tuesday, 1st July, 2025 - PART 1 of 2
Dear Party Leaders, Distinguished Members, Friends, and Fellow Citizens,
It is with deep humility, a profound sense of duty, and unwavering hope for our people, nation, race and party and that I accept the appointment as The National Secretary of our great party.
I thank the leadership for the trust reposed in me. But more than that, I thank every committed member of this party are those who still believe that politics can be a force for good, people who believe that party forms government and must control it. Those who believe in the supremacy of the party in a democracy and all products of democratic contests. Those who recognise that parties must stand for and with the people in the promotion of their interests and aspirations. That parties therefore are not merely machines for winning elections but institutions for mobilizing, organizing, energizing, educating, empowering and encouraging the people towards their emancipation and development.
Let me begin by saying this: a political party is not a platform for opportunism. It is not a mere vehicle to power for the few, nor a tool for personal ambition. A political party, in its truest form, is a living institution built on values, guided by ideals, and accountable to the people it seeks to serve.
Throughout Africa’s history, and particularly in the legacy of the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa; a 113 year- behemoth of party organization that is impeccable in its credibility as a model of supremacy of party over its creation (government and popularly elected officials) have seen what a party grounded in ideology, principle, and people-centered struggle can achieve. The ANC is not perfect but it stands for something. It was forged in resistance, sharpened by vision, and led by men and women who believe in justice, dignity, equality, inclusivity of all interests and true freedom. It has character. It has soul. It is therefore a true platform for the expression of their aspirations.
Sadly, in Nigeria today, we cannot say the same about many of our political parties.
Our political landscape is plagued by parties that lack ideological depth. They are empty shells merging and splitting, not over policy or principle, but over power and personality. There is little regard for the people, and even less for the country.
That is not the kind of party we must be. That is not the kind of party I will serve.
As The National Secretary, I will work to build a party that has a clear ideological compass, a party that is absolutely committed to the people, rooted in democratic values, rule of law, social justice, accountability, transparency and national development. A party that listens and works for to the people, not only during elections, but every single day.
We must become an institution where:
(1) Internal democracy is not just preached but practiced.
(2) Intra-party competition is transparent, fair, and just.
(3) All party structures from the ward to the national level and function effectively and efficiently.
(4) Young people, women, and the marginalized have a real voice, not symbolic inclusion.
(5) All special and critical interests(security, educators, farmers, workers, women, youth, professionals, people with special needs, etc., must be recognised and allowed to have autonomous structures within the party.
We will model international best practices in party organization, administration, and ethics. We will study what works from South Africa to Sweden, from Chile to Kenya, and adapt what fits our local reality. Discipline, order, clarity of purpose, and service to the people must define us.
I cannot understand how Nigeria can maintain diplomatic ties with an ethno-fascist, apartheid, racist, child-killing, mass-murdering, ethnic- cleansing, genocidal state like Israel which has levelled every standing structure in Gaza and murdered over 200,000 innocent civilians, including women and children, in just one year, slaughtered and incarcerated thousands in the West Bank, bombed and killed thousands in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen in one month, committed genocide and ethnic cleansing, starved innocent civilian populations, bombed defenceless refugee camps, imposed a blockade and starved innocent Gazans and now initiated a brutal and unprovoked attack on Iran, killing military commanders, nuclear scientists and innocent civilians, whilst that nation was still in peace negotiations with the America.
Israel is a lunatic, rogue state which considers itself above the law, which has no respect for or fear of God, which places no value on human life, which seeks to conquer and occupy the whole of the Middle East in the name of establishing a 'Greater Israel', which is interested in plunging the entire world into WW3 and which believes in religious and racial supremacy and Zionist hegemony.
Nigeria has no business maintaining diplomatic ties with such an evil pariah state and vile entity which feeds on the blood and souls of the innocent, the weak and the vulnerable and which has now launched an unprovoked war against the free and sovereign Islamic Republic of Iran.
The good news is that it looks as if they have met their match and for the first time in 76 years the Jewish state is getting as good as it dishes out to others.

A woman is sexually harassed by her colleague. Approach her institution & lodges a formal complaint against the perpetrator. The institution appoints the accused as the presiding officer to preside over the case against him? This is madness Nigeria. #JusticeForNatasha@NGRSenate

My brothers and sisters from Nigeria, what is going on here? A woman accuses her boss for sexual harassment and she is the one who gets suspended from work not the perpetrator? Is the system designed to protect sex offenders not the victims?
Nigerian lawmakers have suspended a senator for six months, a day after she submitted a petition alleging she had been sexually harassed by the senate president.
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan last Friday made the accusations against Godswill Akpabio. https://t.co/PLZcclhdCe
