Thanks to modern printing technology, goalies can create personal and meaningful imagery on their gear. A recent and very poignant example is Linus Ullmark. For many years @Icebeardude has worn custom @BauerHockey gear with imagery of cracks across the surface. Several months ago, Ullmark updated the color of the cracks from dark to gold. This is a reference to Kintsugi (“golden joinery”), the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, highlighting rather than hiding cracks. Ullmark told us he wanted to change the graphic and make reference to Kintsugi to reflect “the struggles that I’ve been through that now have started to heal.”
