While the book is a number of years old and was the first book written on the relevance of stories and narratives in Afghanistan conflict, I think it’s still relevant to Afghanistan and the Taliban, but I would argue that it’s actually relevant to all kinds of small wars, especially insurgencies and counterinsurgencies.

I would also argue that it has implications, especially for Iran, not so much for the United States in Trump‘s unnecessary war to divert American public attention away from the Trump- Epstein papers. Not a very good narrative comes out of this idiotic move by this dolt.

نوشکی میں نامعلوم افراد کی فائرنگ سے قتل ہونے والے براہوی زبان کے نامور سکالر، شاعر اور مترجم پروفیسر محمد خان المعروف غمخوار حیات کی پوسٹ مارٹم رپورٹ کے مطابق ان کے جسم پر نو گولیوں کے نشانات پائے گئے ہیں۔
غمخوار حیات دورِ حاضر میں عبدالرزاق صابر (جو لاپتہ افراد کی فہرست میں شامل ہیں) کے کام سے بے حد متاثر تھے اور میر گل خان نصیر اور نادر قمبرانی کے ادبی فلسفے کے پیروکار تھے۔ قتل کے وقت ان کی میز پر گلزار گچکی کی بلوچی کتاب "سروز" موجود تھی، جس کا وہ براہوئی ترجمہ کر رہے تھے۔
ان کی زندگی کا آخری اور سب سے اہم مشن براہوی زبان کو گوگل کی زبانوں میں شامل کروانا تھا۔ اس مقصد کے لیے انہوں نے ایک دوست کو تقریباً تین ہزار الفاظ بھیجے تھے، تاہم ان کے بھائی کے مطابق اب اس ادھورے کام کی موجودہ صورتحال کا علم کسی کو نہیں ہے۔
وہ بوائز ڈگری کالج نوشکی میں اسسٹنٹ پروفیسر تھے اور فارغ اوقات میں آزات فاؤنڈیشن میں سماجی و ادبی کام کرتے تھے۔ انہوں نے 2020ء میں یونیورسٹی آف بلوچستان سے ایم فل کیا، جس میں ان کا تحقیقی مقالہ "براہوئی مزاحمتی شاعری کا تحقیقی جائزہ (1839 تا 2018)" تھا۔
مقتول کے خاندانی ذرائع نے انکشاف کیا ہے کہ ان کا سبی تبادلہ ہونے کے دنوں میں یہ افواہ اڑی تھی کہ ان کا نام فورتھ شیڈول میں شامل ہے، تاہم اس کا کوئی ثبوت نہیں ملا۔ البتہ، خاندان نے تصدیق کی کہ ان کی نگرانی کی جا رہی تھی اور انہیں ادبی و سماجی سرگرمیاں محدود کرنے کے لیے دھمکی آمیز فون کالز بھی موصول ہوئی تھیں۔
اس کی وجہ ان کے چھوٹے بھائی عتیق الرحمٰن کا مبینہ طور پر ایک کالعدم تنظیم سے تعلق بتایا جاتا تھا، جبکہ غمخوار حیات ہمیشہ کہتے تھے کہ "میں امن کا لکھاری ہوں اور کسی رشتہ دار کے فعل کا ذمہ دار نہیں ہوں۔"
سرکاری ریکارڈ میں ان کا نام محمد خان درج تھا، جبکہ ان کا اصل نام محمد حیات تھا۔ ان کے والد حاجی عبدالمجید ساسولی بھی شاعر تھے۔ غمخوار حیات نے پسماندگان میں تین بیٹے اور دو بیٹیاں چھوڑی ہیں جو ان کے مشن کو جاری رکھنے کے لیے پرعزم ہیں۔
ان کے ادبی استاد ڈاکٹر شاہ محمد مری نے شدید دکھ کا اظہار کرتے ہوئے لکھا:
"تمہارے جسم کی جو جگہیں پھول رکھنے کے لیے تھیں، وہاں آگ اگلتی گولیاں لگیں۔ تیرے ساتھ ایسا نہیں ہونا چاہیے تھا یار۔"

To civil society, journalists, and state officials:

I am writing as a grieving wife, seeking the immediate and lawful release of my husband, Muhammad Saad.

At approximately 3:30 AM this Monday, 12–13 masked men with guns forcibly entered our home and took him away without presenting any warrant or lawful authority. This was an unlawful deprivation of liberty and a direct violation of due process.

Only after legal pressure did personnel within CTD register an FIR on laughable grounds. This post facto action raises serious concerns of mala fide intent and abuse of process, where the law is invoked after the fact to justify an illegal act.

Saad is a journalist, researcher, and Political Science scholar. His work engages with complex subjects, including Balochistan, Kashmir, and international affairs. He has interviewed recognised public figures such as Former Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar, as well as senior journalists Sohail Warraich and Hamid Mir, and has introduced major international voices to Pakistan’s media space.

More importantly, Saad has worked with state institutions when called upon, contributing to areas aligned with the national interest. He was vetted, cleared, and entrusted by the State. Today, that same individual is being subjected to coercive action by its functionaries.

This contradiction is not incidental but structural.

If individuals who have been vetted and trusted by the state can be subjected to arbitrary detention and retrospective criminalisation, then the question is unavoidable: on what basis does the state expect trust from its citizens?

The actions of certain personnel within CTD constitute a clear overreach of authority. Powers granted for public safety cannot be exercised in violation of constitutional safeguards, including the inviolability of the home and the right to due process. The law does not permit enforced taking into custody followed by procedural reconstruction.

Saad has never engaged with any proscribed material nor been involved in any unlawful activity. His life and work have remained within the bounds of law and intellectual inquiry.

I call upon civil society, the media, and responsible state authorities to take immediate cognisance of this case. Ensure due process. Examine the legality of the initial detention. Hold those responsible accountable. And ensure his safe and immediate release.

This is not just about one individual. It is about law and dignity. It is about giving hope to others who have worked for the state and Pakistan whenever called upon, who have trusted the state against all odds. This youth must be protected and safeguarded within a shrinking demographic that believe in state and that is increasingly disillusioned and disenfranchised.

BBC won’t tell you that both Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP) and the Islamic State-Khorasan Province (ISKP) use this section of Sayed Jamaluddin Afghani University in Kunar province for jihadi training in the evenings. Also, ISIS members have literally graduated from this university. It’s easier to cover for terrorists than to counter them—never forget that! This was a strike on designated terrorists.
