Battambang’s governor says Thailand launched bombs from fighter jets in his province over 100 km from the border, yet Thailand claims Cambodia invaded them. It’s heartbreaking.
At 10:00 am (December 24, 2025), the Thai military used T-50 fighter jets to drop four bombs into a civilian residential area deep into Cambodian sovereign territory in Banan district, Battambang province, along the route to Pailin Province, before continuing toward Chanthaburi Province. The T-50 is an aircraft manufactured in South Korea. So far, the Thai military has used three types of aircraft—made in the United States, Sweden, and South Korea—to carry out attacks on Cambodia.”

According to Cambodian Ministry of Interior, from 6:00 p.m. on 23 December until 7:00 a.m. on 24 December 2025, acts of aggression by the Thai Government and Military against Cambodia’s sovereign territory, particularly the firing and dropping of various types of munitions into civilian areas, have resulted in the following severe impacts:
1. Deaths and Injuries:
There were no additional deaths or injuries. In total, since 7 December, there have been 21 civilian deaths and 83 injuries.
2. Displacement of Civilians:
Since 7 December, there is a total of 607,980 displaced persons, including 318,668 women and 191,957 children. These figures may continue to change.
3. Destruction of Civilian Physical Infrastructure:
One civilian house in Battambang Province was damaged. Therefore, since 7 December, damage to private property includes 121 civilian houses, 6 privately owned buildings, 5 apartments/hotels, one gas station, 27 cars, one motorcycle, one cassava purchasing warehouse, one warehouse, and 2 cell towers.
Damage to public property includes 5 schools, 2 health centers, 11 government office buildings, 5 pagodas, one almsgiving hall, one vehicle, one ancient temple, 5 bridges, one market, and 2 road sections.
As of now, more than half a million Cambodian people, including over 50% women and children, are suffering severe hardship after being forced to leave their homes and schools to flee punitive, light and heavy artillery shelling and aerial bombings by Thailand’s F-16 aircraft, which have repeatedly destroyed their homes and communities.
For this reason, the ministry continued to call upon foreign friends, particularly the United States of America, China, Malaysia, and ASEAN friends, to remain actively engaged in supporting efforts toward permanent de-escalation and the achievement of lasting peace, which reflects Cambodia’s long-standing aspiration, as well as the shared desire of the Thai people and humanity at large.
As explicitly stated by Cambodia at the Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Cambodia seeks to resolve disputes, including border delimitation, through peaceful means, in accordance with international law, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), as well as existing bilateral treaties and mechanisms between the two countries.
Guided by a sincere and shared aspiration for peace, the ministry remain highly optimistic that the meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC), which both sides have agreed to convene, together with subsequent meetings, will contribute to reducing armed hostilities and to the restoration of the ceasefire.
The Ministry of Interior wishes to once again underscore its great pride in all Cambodian citizens who have united in spirit and stood shoulder to shoulder in support of the national defense strategy led by Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. This powerful unity has provided tremendous strength to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces under the Ministry of National Defence and the Border Protection Police under the Ministry of Interior, who are courageously defending the integrity of the national territory. The ministry respectfully call upon our fellow citizens to continue strengthening this single Khmer spirit of unity and to uphold it permanently.

Students rushed to catch their bicycles and motorbikes to get home from school after Thai fighter jet dropped bombs near Phnom Sampov, a popular tourist destination in Battambang province.
On the evening of May 23, 2025, Poipet City became increasingly heated. Thailand continued to fire shells at a building in Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province at 4:30 PM this afternoon.
“I Could Not Sleep All Night”: A 93-Year-Old Woman’s Fear in a Displacement Center
BANTEAY MEANCHEY – Por Long, 93, is among the few families forced to evacuate from Svay Chek commune in Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province, following intensified Thai military bombardment.
Her family fled on December 11 after repeated explosions and the presence of military drones made it impossible to remain in the village.
“We could not stay because many bombs were falling and so many military drones,” Long said.
Long has nine children, but none of her biological children live with her due to long-standing financial hardship. She lives alone and receives care from her daughter-in-law, who resides nearby.
She is currently staying at Kralanh Pagoda displacement center in Siem Reap province with several hundred other families.
Long said she fled with her daughter-in-law and one grandchild on a homemade tractor, bringing very few belongings.
“I came here, and I could not sleep at night. I am afraid, afraid of Thai fighter jets,” she said.
“Last night I sat awake the whole night. When I heard an explosion, I kept waking my daughter and grandchild to run for safety.”
The ongoing violence has revived memories of Cambodia’s civil war. Long recalled her father's advice: during wartime, travel against the flow of water to avoid danger.
“It might be superstition, but it is something that has protected me since I was young,” she said. “I always followed his advice to stay safe.”
Like many elderly evacuees, Long struggles with loneliness after being displaced from her home. Her greatest wish is to return as soon as possible.
“I want to go back home. I miss it so much,” she said. “I keep urging my daughter to drive back, but our village is still being bombed.”
The bombardment has not stopped, and Svay Chek continues to be heavily targeted by Thai artillery and shelling. Although Long longs to return, she fears the fighting may not end soon.
“I am not sure because the bombs are in their hands,” she said. “If they want to attack, they can keep doing it even if we urge them to stop. We cannot do anything else.”
“Maybe we have to stay here until the bombs fall silent.”
Despite her age, Long continues to tend a small garden at home, growing produce to sell so she does not have to rely on her children, who live far away.
Some send her small amounts of money, but it is not enough to cover her daily needs.
“I left three rows of vegetables at home when we fled,” she said. “We were among the few families who stayed even when the shelling became intense.”
“I do not know if my vegetables are still good. Maybe they have already been damaged.”

Is It Safe to Travel to Cambodia During the Thailand–Cambodia Border Conflict?
Cambodia remains generally safe to visit if you stay well away from the Thai border and monitor official travel advisories closely, but the border areas themselves are currently unsafe and subject to “do not travel” warnings

A clear example of international media trying to justify Thai F-16 attacks on Cambodian civilians by calling the areas “scam centers.” This is a big lie, probably because they were paid. Making up stories to excuse violence against innocent people, including children going to school and normal families, is wrong. Journalists who do this betray the truth and fail their duty to the public.
