INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2026
Theme: Justice, Dignity and Economic Power for Widows
International Widows Day provides a moment for reflection on the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of widows to our families, communities, and society. It also serves as a call to action to ensure that widows are afforded the justice, dignity, and economic opportunities they rightfully deserve.
Guided by a deep commitment to humanity and social inclusion, the @waohfoundation (WAOH) has, since my assumption of office as the First Lady of Ekiti State, remained steadfast in restoring hope where despair once existed. Through targeted interventions, empowerment programmes, and the provision of life-enhancing support kits, countless widows have been equipped with the tools, confidence, and opportunities needed to rebuild their lives and secure a brighter future.
At WAOH, we believe that every widow deserves not merely to survive, but to thrive. By helping them find their feet again, we are enabling them to transform adversity into opportunity and challenges into stepping stones for success.
As we commemorate this yearโs International Widows Day, let us renew our collective commitment to building a society where no widow is left behind, where compassion meets action, and where justice, dignity, and economic empowerment become a lived reality for all.

The energy was electric, the crowd was historic, and the message was absolutely undeniable.
โYesterday, the entire nation aligned with Ekiti to declare that our progress must not stop. From the powerful backing of the Presidency and our brother Governors, to the incredible cross-party endorsements and the massive sea of everyday citizens, we showed the world what unity looks like.
โThis is more than a campaign recap. This is the movement of a people determined to protect their peace, their free education, and their economic future. Watch this, feel the momentum, and let us take this unstoppable energy straight to the polls this Saturday.

Earlier today, my wife, Dr. Olayemi @YemibOyebanji, and I joined our fellow citizens at our polling unit to exercise our civic rights and cast our votes.
The true strength of our democracy lies in the peaceful, orderly participation of every single voter. It is incredibly inspiring to see our people turning out calmly, with great dignity, and in absolute compliance with all electoral guidelines, reflecting the exceptional Omoluabi spirit that defines Ekiti State.
I commend the electoral officials and security agencies for their professionalism on the ground so far. Let us maintain this serene atmosphere across all polling units as the process continues. Your voice is your power. Let us keep our state peaceful, unified, and exemplary.

This is the beautiful face of an absolute consensus. I am profoundly grateful to every single citizen who walked into a polling unit yesterday to cast their vote for continuity and stability.
By delivering a clean sweep across all 16 local governments and entrusting us with 85% of the popular vote, you have shattered records and built an unbreakable wall of unity.
This historic milestone proves that when governance is inclusive, personal, and focused entirely on human development, it unites everyone across all political lines.
Thank you for your orderly conduct, your trust, and your unwavering belief in our homegrown vision. This massive victory belongs to you.
As we transition into this next chapter, I promise to remain your servant leader, working tirelessly every single day to protect your future and expand our state's prosperity.

Today, alongside my Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, I officially received our Certificate of Return from INEC.
Backed by your historic 319,224 votes, this certificate is not a political trophy. It is a sacred contract to deepen good governance and accelerate sustainable development across the Land of Honour.
I am immensely grateful to my wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji @YemibOyebanji, our party leaders, and the good people of Ekiti for ensuring one of the most peaceful elections in our history. Special appreciation goes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his courage in signing the amended Electoral Act into law, which was vital in delivering a transparent, fair, and highly professional process.
This historic victory belongs to every resident of our state. As we return to work immediately to consolidate our achievements in welfare, infrastructure, and economic growth, I extend a hand of fellowship to my fellow contestants to join hands with our administration.
Let us build this next great chapter together.

Earlier today, I visited our resilient brothers and sisters from Eda Oniyo currently recovering at EKSUTH. Seeing them stable, especially a young child who has now regained consciousness, brings profound relief and reinforces the sacred duty I bear to protect every life in Ekiti State.
My administration has undertaken the full cost of their medical and psychological recovery.
Let me be clear: security is a fundamental human right, not a political tool. We will continue to collaborate with President Tinubu and our security agencies to relentlessly flush out criminal elements from our state.
I am deeply grateful to the Eda Oniyo community and our security forces for their bravery and intelligence. We will remain united, vigilant, and unyielding in our pursuit of a safe and peaceful Ekiti.

The presentation of Certificates of Return to Governor Biodun Oyebanji and Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye by INEC marks more than a constitutional process; it represents a renewed mandate to build on the progress already being recorded in Ekiti State.
As a new term begins, the focus remains on sustainable economic growth, improved service delivery, human capital development, and inclusive governance.
Congratulations to the Governor, Deputy Governor, and the people of Ekiti State on this important democratic milestone.

My sincere appreciation goes to the President of the Forum, Chief Ronke Okunsanya, and all our distinguished female elders for their unwavering dedication and consistent support for the administration of His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
Her passion for service remains truly inspiring.
As we move forward, I urge women in leadership across the state to continue embracing collaboration and to remain active participants in shaping the future of Ekiti.
Together, we will keep building an equitable, inclusive, and prosperous Ekiti State where every woman is empowered to thrive and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

In furtherance of our shared commitment to inclusive leadership and party unity, I had the honour of joining the esteemed APC Female Elders Forum at their 2026 maiden agenda meeting held in Ado-Ekiti.
It was a truly delightful gathering of women of strength, wisdom, and unwavering commitment, leaders who continue to contribute immensely to the growth of our great party and the development of Ekiti State.

I received the Ogun State team of the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP) during their peer-to-peer support visit to Ekiti State.
Our engagement centred on the critical role of women-focused development and the need for strengthened stakeholder collaboration to sustain empowerment initiatives across our communities.
I reaffirmed that women and other vulnerable groups must remain at the core of our social and economic development agenda.
While the programme is newly introduced in Ekiti State, our administration has consistently championed similar interventions, including the @waohfoundation and the @adireekitihub Empowerment Initiative, through which thousands of beneficiaries have been supported with skills acquisition, resources, and sustainable economic opportunities.
I commend the NFWP team for their commitment to inclusive growth and for expanding opportunities for women entrepreneurs through access to training, business support, and financial empowerment platforms.
We look forward to a productive partnership that will ensure the successful implementation of the programme in Ekiti State and its continued positive impact across our communities.
