The archmage enchanted the board where request were pinned that gave them ranking. This stopped new adventurers from trying something out of their reach and from solo adventurers from going where a party is needed.

The guild hall in the city was formed after people wondered in to the city seeking assistance. A few brave people helped them and spread word of the people paying them.

They used the funds to buy a small store where people could post their request on a board.

In the city of magic and disbelief they have element alignment detectors. Imagine a empty snow globe and when you force your magic into it the element freezes in time. These make a great keepsake for their children as their magic grows and changes.
