Day and night, bankers have stood with the nation expanding financial inclusion, taking banking to every corner, implementing Jan Dhan, digital banking, UPI and countless public-purpose initiatives, and keeping the financial system moving through every challenge.

And the results speak for themselves.

The economic advisory council @PMOIndia @narendramodi latest working paper reports that in FY2025-26, Public Sector Banks recorded 93.12% technical efficiency against 86.02% for private banks. Across FY2015-FY2026, PSBs averaged 88.53%, compared with 85.62% for private banks.

Bankers have delivered.
PSBs have delivered.
The nation has been served.

Now, one simple question:

WHEN WILL THE COMMITMENT MADE TO BANKERS BE HONOURED?

A better banking experience starts with a sustainable workweek. With acute staff shortages and mounting stress, 5-day banking is about public service and employee well-being, not a privilege.
UFBU has been pressing since 2015; IBA has already recommended it to the Government (MoU 07-12-2023), and the 12th Bipartite/9th Joint Note (08-03-2024) records the Saturday holiday clause, pending approvals/clearances.
Honour what’s on record. Approve all Saturdays off.
