📅 On this day in Zimbabwe Cricket history (4 May 2020)
Zimbabwe Cricket officially voided the 2019–20 Logan Cup, with no winner declared after the season was halted by COVID-19.
The competition — first played in 1903 and the country’s premier first-class tournament — was abandoned mid-campaign, with teams having played an uneven number of matches.
Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni said the decision was taken to protect players and staff, adding that “the health and safety of our players and stakeholders is paramount.”
It marked one of the rare occasions in Zimbabwe’s cricket history that its flagship domestic competition was formally scrapped🇿🇼
@TatendaJokonya@DanielSson85 Bro this Zim team selection is wack once Bennett raza Burl are out we collapse what is even the point of munyonga in the team and benching Curran
@DavidColtart@BCCI@cricketworldcup It’s ridiculous! Every Zimbabwean has tuned in to watch this shower of shit! And if we say anything, the Zim cricket lapdogs/ keyboard warriors say we are racist & a part of this imaginary “Cabal” Enough is enough our selectors are biased and we are being embarrassed
Here #Zimbabwe#Cricket is on the world stage playing @BCCI in the @cricketworldcup and our pathetic selectors choose poorly - again.
I don’t like naming players because it isn’t their fault if they get selected. But to select a 4th seamer (and drop a spinner who has been one of our best this World Cup) on a turning pitch and select another player whose confidence is down over an exciting new player is simply at best irresponsible. I just hope other political factors weren’t at play.
We need to appreciate that this isn’t just about cricket - it is about the marketing of our country before hundreds of millions of people. We have to put our best team forward and anything less is against our national interest.
