“Honestly, I couldn't stop laughing. One of them kept shouting, 'Declan! You're not playing against West Ham anymore! This is Bayern Munich!' (laughs).

“Then another one started shouting that I should enjoy touching the ball because I wouldn't be seeing much of it for the rest of the night.

“I remember looking over and thinking, these guys have clearly been waiting all week for this match.

“The funniest part was when one of them shouted, 'Your £100 million price tag won't save you here!' I nearly laughed because I wasn't even doing anything. I was just standing there waiting for play to restart.

“But I love that atmosphere. That's what Champions League football is about. The fans try to get into your head, and your job is to make sure they don't succeed.

“I just smiled and told one of them, 'Keep that same energy when we score.' He didn't seem to appreciate that very much.”
