Dectin-1 signaling promotes Galectin-3 shedding from myeloid cells, leading to its deposition onto immunosuppressive CECs in the tumor microenvironment. Targeting PD-L1 substantially reduced Gal-3⁺PD-L1⁺ CECs and induced tumor regression.

We are pleased to share our new study on CD71⁺ erythroid cells in triple-negative breast cancer is now published in OncoImmunology. This work identifies a previously unrecognized axis linking Dectin-1, Galectin-3, and immune evasion.

Erythroid cells were long considered passive oxygen carriers. This review highlights how they actively shape immunity — suppressing responses in neonates, supporting feto-maternal tolerance, contributing to immune evasion in cancer, and modulating responses in infections.
We are pleased to share that our review on CD71⁺ erythroid cells is now published in Nature Reviews Immunology; the highest standard for review articles in our field.

June #TopRead from @UAlberta_FoMD and @WCHRIUofA found distinct gene expression profiles in CD71+ erythroid cells at various developmental stages, suggesting a critical role for Gal-3 in modulating erythropoiesis and enhancing immunoregulation. Read more: https://t.co/eLXazdpBD4
