26 million people work from home at least part time and we think it’s being savvy. 3 million Teachers have to do it during a pandemic and people want their pay cut since they think they’re not working. Teachers sure do put up with a lot of crap just to educate our youth.

The "we always make it work" mentality allows educators to be taken advantage of.

Yes, positive attitudes are needed, but to be flat out taken advantage of is not ok.

If we want educators to take care of kids, we need to take care of educators.

Medical workers, other workers who deal with the public have proper protection put in place with supplies, guards/barriers, masks required to be worn by customers, etc. The same can’t be said for teachers right now!

The difference between medical workers being put at risk is they don’t have to worry about adequate or appropriate supplies. The same cannot be said for teachers and all school staff if they return to schools.

Smartest thing I heard from a supt recently:

As part of reopening planning, arrange a simulated school day (or even 1/2 day) for key stakeholders (supt, bd, union pres, etc) to "attend" school under draft plan.

From bus to class to bathroom, walk in their shoes b4 deciding.
