The image of Castle Doom filled the screen behind the anchor as the broadcast returned from commercial. Along the bottom of the display, a scrolling headline continued to dominate the news cycle for a third consecutive day.
LATVERIA FACES INTERNATIONAL TRIBUNAL OVER CORPORATE SEIZURES
"Good evening. Our top story tonight: tensions continue to rise between Latveria and an international coalition of corporations and investors following Doctor Doom's controversial seizure of several foreign-owned facilities operating within Latverian territory."
Images flashed across the screen. Factories. Warehouses. Armed Latverian security forces standing watch behind barricades. Statements from business leaders and government officials appeared briefly before disappearing again.
"According to reports, the facilities were seized nearly two months ago after Latverian authorities accused their parent organizations of violating domestic regulations, conducting unauthorized research, and illegally transferring technology outside the country's borders. Representatives for the affected corporations deny all allegations, claiming the actions were politically motivated and constitute unlawful expropriation."
The scene shifted to footage from New York, Geneva, and Washington as commentators debated the implications. Some warned that Doom's actions threatened international commerce. Others pointed to Latveria's long-standing policy of operating independently from foreign influence, arguing that the nation remained within its sovereign rights. What had begun as a business dispute had steadily evolved into something far larger.
Earlier this week, an international tribunal formally agreed to hear the case. Legal experts describe the proceeding as unprecedented, with multiple governments, corporations, and independent organizations expected to participate. Representing the coalition bringing the complaint is noted attorney Jennifer Walters, better known to the public as the superhero She-Hulk. Neither Walters nor representatives from Latveria have issued detailed public statements regarding the upcoming proceedings.
What few realize is that the legal battle may already extend beyond the courtroom. Sources connected to the investigation have reported missing records, conflicting witness testimony, and evidence that appears to have been altered or fabricated. Officials have dismissed the reports as speculation, but concerns continue to grow behind closed doors.
For now, the world watches and waits.
The tribunal is scheduled to begin in three days.
Doctor Doom has confirmed he intends to appear personally.
Doom remained exactly where he stood, arms folded across his chest, the emerald cloak barely stirring in the high wind.
He offered no reaction to her quiet thanks. No acknowledgment of the blade she had retrieved.
Only a long, unblinking stare from behind the mask while she explained her desire for a challenge, openly admitting she expected to lose.
The silence stretched.
Then his voice came, flat and dismissive.
“I would rather not participate in indulging whatever humiliation kink this is.”
He did not move. His gaze remained fixed on her, cold and unimpressed.
“You know you cannot win, yet you still ask to spar. You frame it as a game, smirk, and crack your knuckles as though this were some thrilling diversion rather than a waste of my time.”
A faint tilt of his head.
“Victor von Doom does not entertain such requests. If you wish to test yourself, find a mirror. Or a lesser opponent who enjoys watching you fall.”
He waited, unmoved.
Doom stood motionless on the windswept rooftop as her words reached him — the quiet thanks, the glance over the edge, the hesitant question about getting down. The night wind tugged at his emerald cloak while he studied her, arms still folded across his chest.
Without a word, he reached into the folds of his cloak and withdrew the knife he had taken from her earlier. With a casual flick of his wrist, he tossed it onto the concrete at her feet. It clattered sharply once and lay still between them.
“Your blade,” he said simply, voice calm and even.
His masked gaze remained fixed on her, unblinking.
“As for sparring… you speak of it as though it were a simple request. Tell me, little wanderer — what purpose do you truly seek in testing yourself against me? Is it to prove your potential? To measure how far you still have to fall? Or is there something else driving this sudden desire to cross blades with Victor von Doom?”
He let the question hang in the cold air, the city lights glittering far below like a distant, indifferent audience.
