Something happened few minuets ago that really broke me.

I drove into the fuel station to get fuel and since there was a man before me,I stepped out of my car and waited for him to buy.

I was standing right opposite this man who looked visibly troubled and I saw him give the forecourt assistant 2k.

He brought out a gallon and asked that she put 1k fuel in the car and 1k fuel in the gallon.

This man was driving a Lexus 300 so, this didn’t make sense to me initially but when I drove out of the fuel station tears filled my eyes cos i remembered the past.(Story for another day)

When I saw him pull out the 2k, I didn’t know if I should offer to help or not because I was also wondering how the wife would feel since she was sitting in the car with their child.

Thinking about it now, I feel so bad,I can’t explain if he was in a difficult situation or if my brain is playing tricks on me but I feel deeply sad.

I would have really wished I offered to help and the help got rejected.

Men are going through stuff in this country.

pls be kind to your spouse.

Be kind to people around you.

Offer help when you can.

Most people are wearing a mask because they don’t want to be mocked.

Just be kind.

Ever wondered how the dollar got its name?

The word “dollar” didn’t begin in America, and the United States didn’t invent it.

Its roots go back to 1519, to a silver coin minted in a mining town called Joachimsthal—“Joachim’s valley”—in what is now the Czech Republic. The coin was called the Joachimsthaler, a long name that people quickly shortened to thaler.

The thaler became one of the most trusted coins in Europe because it was heavy, consistent, and made of good silver. As trade expanded, the coin travelled—and so did its name.
In Germany, it stayed thaler.
In Scandinavia, it became daler.
In the Netherlands,s it was called daalder.
English merchants, who dealt constantly with the Dutch, adopted the word and pronounced it “dollar.” This happened long before the United States existed.
When Europeans crossed the Atlantic, the most common coin in the New World wasn’t British—it was the Spanish silver dollar, also known as the piece of eight. It was accepted everywhere, trusted by everyone, and used daily in the American colonies.
So when the U.S. gained independence and needed a national currency, it didn’t invent a new name. It chose the one people already trusted.

The dollar is a reminder that money, like language, travels. It’s shaped by trade, habit, and history long before it’s written into law.

In summary, the dollar is European by birth, global by habit, and American by adoption.
