Today, we bring you a few highlights from the newsletter & podcast so far, w experts from multiple domains speaking the same language: the need, hope & potential of grounding #AI solutions for climate action in foundational scientific knowledge, & imp reasons to do that.
@EleSlade shared w us the arenas where she sees @AI tools as great *aids* to #conservation practices, reminding that for the #GlobalSouth to lead their own tech innovation, it has to be contextual, participatory & mindful of costs, but also investing in the next generation.
We learnt a lot from Dr Slade who shared from her experience as an ecologist across the rainforests and oil palm plantations of Singapore, Malaysia, Sumatra, Philippines, Belize, and Brazil, as well as the woodlands and agricultural systems of Finland and the UK.
🎙️ #CodeGreen: Can AI tools help bridge the data gap in biodiversity conservation for Asia, while balancing their environmental costs?
In this month's ep, @urvashi_aneja spoke w @EleSlade of @NTUsg.

🎙️ #CodeGreen Podcast: Ep 04 out now! 💥
@urvashi_aneja speaks with @EleSlade & @vvrobin abt the ways AI can help w conservation efforts across diverse habitats; along w the fact that tech like AI on its own isnt enough.

Hoping to popularise #bioacoustics research in India, participated in this exciting podcast.
Also learnt that it is tough to simplify topics and speak clearly while using very few words 😀!
In awe of @EleSlade and @urvashi_aneja for their clarity! Do tune in!
Don’t miss the "We Love Our Planet” exhibition where we have an information board about the #CTP_EOS biodiversity cluster. This @CityDevLtd exhibition showcasing Southeast Asia’s rich biodiversity runs from 10 Dec 2024 to 1 Jun 2025 at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
SE Asia is facing biodiversity loss. Check out this #FactFriday graphic to learn about several services provided by biodiversity and why studying ecology & biodiversity is crucial. Assessing climate change effects on biodiversity is one of the research areas at #CTP_EOS 👉 https://t.co/Q5fRY1weE7
Why does it have to be one or the other? Both at the same time needed.

Autumn experiments done! 1600 individuals of 3 species were used for evaluating the effect of temperature and species interactions on different ecosystem functions. 10 interaction treatments x 2🌡️treatments. A great effort from the team! @biotura@Guida_Santos7 & Almudena Dueñas
Our peat grant has ended but little is known about #peatland#inverts so we still have a lot of work to do identifying our samples. Read about @seanyapzs adventures bug-hunting in the swamps of Brunei with our collaborators @UBD_IBER#TEELab@ntu_ase

80% of insect species are yet to be discovered and named; most are smaller, less abundant, found at fewer locations and often in taxonomically complex groups, than named species
