I am posting this and sharing my story in the hope as many people see and understand domestic violence is no joke
As a survivor of domestic violence as a child, those memories have never left me. They are as vivid today as they were all those years ago. I watched my mother being dragged, kicked and brutally beaten to within an inch of her life.
I was only nine years old. My two-year-old sister had become the target of my father’s rage simply because, like many toddlers, she refused to eat her dinner. My father, who was frequently subjected to racial discrimination at work because he was a migrant, often came home carrying that anger. You could see it in his eyes—he was looking for someone to lash out at.
In that moment, I picked up my little sister and did everything I could to protect her.
While my badly injured mother was still being bashed I took
my little baby sister and carried her through the rain, desperately trying to find safety and save her life.
Those moments are etched into my memory forever. No child should ever have to witness such brutality or be forced to become the protector of their own family. Domestic violence doesn’t end when the violence stops—it leaves lifelong scars on those who survive it.
So what do you say when you hear
Pauline Hanson has described paid leave for those experiencing family and domestic violence as “ridiculous”, and suggested the issue is taking police away from “real crime”, calling for the family law system to be “wound back”. And all the other shit that spew out of her mouth
The damage she is doing is unforgivable
@keetmuise Happy to "stay in the basement" and wear a mask when I go out plus other mitigations because I am in my seventh year of mitigations and seventh year free from disease. Not one cold and no flu, nothing. And I know I haven't killed anyone through my selfishness. I mask, I care.
@psychealchemy@Favwontmiss Thank you. I will let you know. It will be another deep dive into so many intertwined themes. The next couple of months are pretty well blocked out, though, of course, it is sooo tempting to drop everything and pursue this latest revelation. 😆
@psychealchemy@Favwontmiss Frankly, I am pretty much done with the medical profession, especially for mental health. Now I am retired and happily spend most of my time alone. Current overwhelm is mainly about what's happening to my small circle of family and friends.❤️
@psychealchemy@Favwontmiss Same here. Have spent a lot of my life dumbing down, not realising I could see, understand and intuit so much more than those around me. This includes doctors, psychologists etc. They have knowledge but can't always see patterns and consequences.
@psychealchemy@Favwontmiss Male. Short guy. Sat behind an enormous desk. I am big and assertive yet that desk dwarfed even me. No sense of empathy from him. Functional, drug treatment focus. Bet he was glad I did not return. 😆
@psychealchemy@Favwontmiss Thank you for your kind offer. Am feeling some overwhelm at present so will need time to digest this new info. Will probably ask for more in a few months. 😊
@psychealchemy@Favwontmiss Wanted to see school records from 40-50 years ago when I was usually top 3 in my subjects with exemplary school behaviour. So what's the problem? I hid it well until university and later when working. Slowly fell apart. That excruciating sensitivity was never addressed.
