@SarahHuckabee has included a little part in her LEARNS companion legislation SB246 attacking Little Rock Central High students efforts to protest her attacks on public education. She’s scared of high school students. She wants total control. #arpx#arleg How sad for you Sarah.
I'm not sure who is more infuriating. The @Asurion representative who lied before trying to mansplain and upsell a product. Or the @FedEx robot that won't let me talk to a human. Just a step below on the ladder is the @ATT folks who give contradictory instructions.
@JayWamsted We had that in a phone app. HAD that. Too many false calls. I buried mine in a folder to prevent a false call. App is gone. I cannot imagine having a simple button.
@LVJolieBeth @heymrsbond 8th grade. I refuse to number sentences in a paragraph. Tell them it is time for writing to grow up for high school. A paragraph takes as many sentences as it takes. I model 20+ sentence paragraphs when writing with evidence. And 1 sentence paragraphs when it is a narrative.
@MoonshineReaper@EducatorAdele @heymrsbond Yes! I start with the animation without words. Let them watch. Ask for their observations. Then I read the poem. Then we break it down, line by line. Students always ask to re-watch the video after learning the story.

@OBrienSci I haven't asked, but I will.
I tell them punctuation should not be floating around like someone tossed glitter on the page. It needs to be attached to a specific word.
Of course, we have to get past the concept of punctuation carrying emotions.
Dear Ma & Pa MAGA,
Now, I know that the truth is about as useful to you as a thesaurus and a truck without “nutz” hangin’ off the back, but we don’t get everything we want in this life, no matter how superior we think we are, so while you ain’t gonna like it, I’m gonna go ahead and say it anyway.
So here goes.
No one is giving a kindergartner a “sex change” in school. They’re not being groomed to be “furries”, not being forced to do their pee pees in litter boxes, not being taught to “hate America” or “indoctrinated” with whatever the fuck “woke ideology” is.
They are however, learning how to hide in supply closets, how to stay super duper silent, and that part of Teacher Sally’s job is to block the door with chairs, all to protect them from something called an “active shooter” which they’ve learned is basically a bad guy who for whatever reason, wants to shoot them dead while they’re at school.
And in a whole bunch of red states where their Governor passed on free federal meals, there are a heck of a lot of kids who are simply too hungry to learn much of anything at all, aside from the perpetual pain of existing on an always empty stomach.
Our schools are supposed to be safe havens. They’re supposed to be a gateway to knowledge. A pathway of possibility. They’re supposed to be a level playing field designed to nurture, educate, enlighten and challenge ALL of our kids so that they’ll have a chance to grow up to do amazing things.
Your leaders lie about our public schools, because they don’t believe in them. They lie because they don’t want to fund them. And they want you to be on board with that, even though it’s very likely that you’ll be among those it most hurts.
So they lie to you and they scare you.
And you believe them.
Maybe life is easier that way.
But the truth is that what they want to do, especially when it comes to our schools, will make life for all of us much, much harder in the end.
And even if you hate me and everything I ever say, I’m not the one who is lying to you about this stuff, they are.
Believe me.
@heymrsbond @jessakae Gorg!!!!
Loving that it is called Howdy Week! It is our 2nd full week, and we are in the middle of our spirit week. Folks keep saying, "Spirit week? So early?" But it is a fun start to the year!
@drdmaclee Same for 8th. When my students ask me what happened to something (missing board game pieces, broken pencil sharpener, etc.), I tell them 8th grade. And follow with "Aren't you in class with me every day?" They shrug, grin and agree.
@heymrsbond Recent call with a parent. I told fellow Ts on call, "he doesn't even know how far under water he is." So overwhelming. That parent ABSOLUTELY cares. Adults, much less teens, would be crushed by the load on this family. Explains behaviors. Leaves ALL at a loss how to help.
@TomKolodziej3 @heymrsbond Gotcha. I will screenshot the convo and search myself when I move back to class prep frame-of-mind. (So many screenshots of projects, LOL.)
Reminds me of a short story I love, but I have no idea how to find the original. 🤦♀️
@kasal_finley @ShanaVWhite But I also thought a lot of what I share came from my years as a technical writer before becoming a teacher. Now, I am realizing they are necessary tech lessons to survive as programs and tools evolve.
@kasal_finley @ShanaVWhite I am constantly teaching my students about keyboard shortcuts; how to leverage power of technology.
Search and replace = 🤯.
CTRL+F in a PDF is life changing.
But it is AFTER forcing them to do research & notes. Showing how to use the notes to save time.
