We are proud to announce a major milestone in commercial energy independence.
Trinity Energy has partnered with @costco-wholesale to develop America’s largest commercial and industrial non-interconnected energy system, capable of independently powering 100% of Costco’s distribution facility in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Trinity Energy has taken Costco’s Port St. Lucie, Florida distribution center fully off-grid with a fully integrated solar + battery + EV charging platform.
This system delivers 24/7 reliability for mission-critical loads, was installed significantly faster than traditional utility backup solutions, and helps Costco bypass lengthy interconnection queues while locking in long-term cost savings, IRA incentives, and progress toward net-zero goals.
As Shay Reed of Costco put it: “by investing in this integrated on-site energy system, we strengthen the reliability… while avoiding additional burden on the utility grid.”
This is a proven model for large warehouses, data centers, manufacturers, and logistics operators who need control over their power future.

As the U.S. celebrated 250 years of independence earlier this month, many American businesses are confronting a different kind of independence, that is the urgent need to reduce reliance on an aging, overburdened power grid.
With surging electricity demand (especially from data centers, one of the fastest-growing consumers of power nationwide), frequent grid strain, and multi-year interconnection delays, commercial and industrial leaders are no longer waiting on traditional utility timelines. Instead, they’re turning to private, on-site energy systems for greater control, reliability, and long-term resilience.
In our latest release, we explore why energy independence is quickly becoming a strategic business imperative — protecting operations, avoiding costly delays, and keeping commerce moving forward.

Exciting news from Trinity Energy. We’re working with the University of Washington to deliver the new Lot E18 Solar Canopy, a modular, grid-tied installation that will generate on-site renewable energy and bolster campus reliability.
As universities and businesses face rising demand and aging infrastructure, distributed solar projects like this aren’t optional anymore. They’re the foundation for energy independence and future electrification.
Trinity is committed to building practical, scalable systems that make clean power a strategic advantage and create energy independence. Excited to see this one come to life with our partners at UW.

Trinity Structures Deploys Costco’s First U.S. Fleet Off-Grid Electrified Structures in Only Four Months
In a monumental stride towards sustainable fleet management, Trinity Structures is proud to announce the successful deployment of Costco's first U.S. Fleet Off-Grid Electrified Structures at its largest distribution center in Mira Loma, CA. Breaking industry norms, Trinity achieved this groundbreaking feat in just four months, revolutionizing the timeline for fleet electrification projects.
Unmatched Speed-to-Market Amidst Industry Challenges
This milestone represents a significant leap for fleet electrification because it was achieved in only four months, accomplishing design, construction, and deployment with electrified structures that create, convert, and conduct solar energy. Data has shown that these projects can take up to 24 months to complete.
Fleet owners grappling with growing state and federal regulations (such as California’s WAIRE Program), often wrestle with protracted timelines of electric infrastructure development, grid capacity limitations, and delay in grid-tied infrastructure. These challenges have driven a surge in demand for integrated electrified structures, from which fleets can greatly benefit.
Costco’s Commitment to Electrify Yard Trucks
As part of its Climate Action Plan, Costco is committed to converting depot yard trucks from diesel models to alternative fuel models by 2035 and expanding on-site solar operations where feasible. To meet business and operational needs, Costco required an end-to-end electrification partner to overcome existing challenges.
Shay Reed, Assistant General Merchandising Manager for Costco Wholesale, states “These off-grid electrified structures enable our fleet to meet and exceed our Climate Action Commitments during this energy transition. The partnership with Trinity allowed for a solution that is creative, effective, operationally viable, and financially responsible.”
Every year the electrified structures are projected to create over 100 megawatts of solar energy, provide 11,750 hours of off-grid fleet vehicle recharging, and offset 3 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Due to California’s WAIRE program, Costco offset $9.8 million in state regulatory fees.
Fleet Electrification End-to-End Infrastructure Partner
Trinity is transforming the fleet electrification infrastructure process with unmatched speed-to-market using electrified structures. These are an integrated modular ecosystem that creates energy with solar power, converts energy with inverters and batteries, and conducts energy through electric vehicle charging or backup power. Darin Leonard, President of Trinity Structures, states “As an end-to-end partner, we provide a single source relationship from concept design, through construction, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance. We are proud to be Costco’s partner as they drive for energy innovation to be deployed in months, not years.”
As fleet electrification becomes inevitable, fleet owners need sustainable solutions to advance their environmental objectives. Trinity forges an unparalleled path forward with integrated electrified structures that create, convert, and conduct solar energy. Trinity is dedicated to upholding an unmatched speed-to-market while prioritizing ethical energy practices, ensuring their partners adhere to ethical sourcing and genuine renewability.
