We really need to be careful of the things we put out as the law.

This is an aspect that I am very familiar with and there is no statutory provision or case law that determines custody on this assumption.

In fact, if a judge made a decision on custody on the assumption that a man would sleep with his own child, where no evidence of such tendency is led, it will be a very solid ground for an appeal.

Ordinarily, our words are taken as the law by people, even when we are joking around. We cannot afford to give every whisper in our head statutory or legal colouration. Visibility shouldn't necessitate recklessness.

Law isn't the only profession and we need to do better, especially online.

If we are not stating what we charge for a case online, we are talking about what it takes to consult us. Then we start arguing with people why we deserve this fee or that fee.

Engineers, Accountants, Architects, Doctors, Auditors, and others earn premium and decent fees for their works. I have never seen any moving the way some colleagues move.

I hope that Ms Bold's administration will look into conducts like this and find a way to get people to behave.

I hear this constantly. A young lawyer is called to the bar, but no law firm is willing to take a chance on her for whatever reason.

This is not rare. It's, in fact, becoming the default, and that is exactly one of the reasons we built the Find a Lawyer section on Case Radar, a section where a lawyer's visibility doesn't depend on which firm's letterhead they are under. Ife, you’ve become a problem for younger women and the generation watching you. You began your journey as the relatable girl next door. You built your platform by presenting yourself as a faceless, timid girl afraid of body‑shaming and judgment. The girl who believed she was too old to find love.

A community embraced you, amplified your voice and helped transform that vulnerability into influence. That journey is precisely why your words now carry considerably more weight than the opinions of an ordinary person online.

You also found a partner. That man has been openly, consistently and publicly expressive about his love and support for you. In a world where men are criticised for emotional unavailability he showed up visibly. And in return, through your words and the posture you have adopted on your platform, you have continuously diminished him subtly and sometimes not so subtly, to a point where a significant number of people online no longer see him as his own person.

He has been reduced to either a dancer or simply Ife's husband. A man who could have stood as his own force has been quietly hollowed out by the platform of the woman he publicly champions. That is worth sitting with. But, let’s leave him aside for now.

Back to you.

You rose from a humble girl to the leader of a community that many young women admired. But instead of using that influence responsibly, you began promoting ideas that mislead the same girls who trusted you. The shift was clear. From commentary on surrogacy and pregnancy, to your stance on weddings, to your take on Lindsay Clancy, you have moved from mentorship to agenda‑pushing, and the agenda is consistently shallow.

Did you sit with this issue honestly? Did you not realise something dangerous? If Lindsay is freed, it creates a precedent that can tear down the very foundation of equality women have fought for. Because once the law accepts “hormones” or “psychosis” as a blanket excuse for killing children, anyone can weaponise it. A neighbour could murder your child, claim postpartum and walk free. How would that ever be justice? Did you think about the children themselves. Do their lives not matter? Do they not deserve justice?

My issue with you isn’t that you have opinions. It’s the quality of those opinions. They lack depth, research, and intellectual grounding. It’s obvious you don’t read, you don’t study, and you don’t seek balanced perspectives, not even from the MAN BESIDE YOU. You wake up, react emotionally, and broadcast unexamined takes to an audience that believes you’re guiding them. I want to assume this is ignorance, not intentional manipulation.

Note, the era of men remaining silent while this kind of content goes unchallenged is over. Those women are our sisters. Some will become our wives. Some will raise our children. We have both the right and the responsibility to offer a counter perspective clearly, consistently and without apology, and to leave it to them to weigh both sides and decide.

We are not here to cancel you. We are here to ensure that your voice is not the only one they hear. We refuse to allow your careless messaging to shape an entire generation of vulnerable young women.

Our objective is not to tell women what to think. It is to ensure that no influencer gets to do their thinking for them. So when I disagree with you, I will challenge the argument rather than your right to speak. Where your reasoning is sound, it should survive scrutiny. Where it is not, it should be challenged. And ultimately, the audience can examine both positions and decide for themselves.

Influence is powerful, Ife. But the greater the influence, the greater the obligation to ensure that what you pour into impressionable minds is informed by knowledge, intellectual humility and serious reflection AND NOT EMOTIONS.

About 2 years ago, I observed water seeping from the floor in the living room. Initially, I thought that someone had poured water on the floor. I reached for the mop and cleaned it up, but the more mopping I did, the more water surfaced.

I called a plumber that had worked for me in the past. He was always reachable. I explained what I noticed to him and how it worried me to death that water was seeping out from the tiles in the sitting room floor.

He arrived about 20 minutes later. He stared longingly at the wall, grabbed two heavy tools, went down on one knee, and raised his mallet.

"Wait. What do you want to do?" I asked.

"We go break these tiles."

"The problem is from under?"

"I don't know. Na why we go break tiles make we find out."

"Are you sure that the problem is from the ground?"

"I no know. If we break this area and we no see anything, maybe we go break am dey trace am."

It felt like setting out to lose a lot for uncertainty. The house was not mine, and getting exactly the same tile in the market could pose a challenge. My concern was further deepened by the uncertainty expressed by the specialist I had engaged. What if we broke it and found nothing?

I asked him to leave it.

"Let me think about this. I will call you back."

I paid him for his time and watched as his motorcycle roared out of my compound.

I called an engineer who does regular construction work. I asked if he knew a competent plumber that he could vouch for. He said he knew one. He linked me up, and we agreed to meet a day later.

When the gentleman plumber arrived, the water had subsided. He listened to my concern and asked me to take him round the house. Like altar servers following the priest, I led the procession while he tailed me.

"Where does this pipe go?"

"This must be the controller for the toilet."

"This pipe takes the water from the washing machine down, abi?"

He kept asking and asserting as we moved round.

By the time we were done, he had figured out the problem.

"There was an initial plan to have a wash-hand spot here, because it is close to the place that should be the dining area. Maybe they changed their mind and blocked the pipe. I think the pipe is leaking."

"But the water is coming from the tiles, not the wall."

"Yes. If it gets too much, it goes down and forces its way up."

He brought out his machine, made a square mark on the wall, and cut neatly. Within 7 minutes, we saw a pipe. Indeed, it was sealed, but water was dropping. He fixed the issue and asked me to call a mason to do the plastering.

No broken tiles, no guesswork. Precision.

When he told me his fee, the "Nigerian" in me wanted to do what clients do to us.

"XYZ thousand kẹ? Something you did within 15 minutes. Just to break small wall and place a cap on the pipe?"

But I didn't.

I recognised expertise. I recognised precision. I recognised accurate diagnosis. I recognised a professional. I appreciated the comfort that his certainty and zero propensity for guesswork brought to me.

I paid him. He threw his crossbody bag, which had his tools in it, over his neck and bounced away from my house.

No car. No motorbike. No bicycle.

"You are charging me XYZ just for a legal opinion?"

"Haaa, you want me to pay that for CAC work?"

"I have never been asked for a consultation fee by any lawyer."

"Oh, you want me to pay just to look at this small document?"

"You're too expensive. My friend's lawyer charged one-third."

Fees are not just fees. When fees are charged, they often come with an insurance or assurance that is not spelt out.

They do not need to spend days on a task to earn premium fees. A 2-page opinion could carry more weight than a 30-page one, and whether a professional drives a car or not ultimately has no nexus with their competence.
