Sixteen years ago, we lost this giant to lung cancer strangely, a man who never smoked, yet he was struck down by lung cancer.
Many times, it was revealed that during his brutal detentions, especially under the wicked Babangida regime, his prison cell was doused with unknown chemicals.

Yet, Gani never let darkness stop him until his final breath.

He was fearless, super organized, and different. Beyond defending us as student leaders in court, he made sure we were fed in detention, his wife cooking meals that reached us behind bars. There will never be another like him.
