This week we made a promise to support Armenia in the face of Russia's economic coercion – and we are already upholding it.
10,000 Armenian cut flowers, which Russia stopped at the border, have now arrived in Latvia, with more shipments to follow.
We are also pleased to see that Royal @FloraHolland will open access to its platform for Armenian flower growers, connecting them directly with buyers across Europe and beyond.
Flowers may symbolise delicacy, but Europe's resolve to stand with Armenia is solid.
Solidaritate cu România!
One week after a drone crashed into an apartment building in Galați, a maritime drone today reached the port of Constanța.
This is a direct consequence of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
It is increasingly becoming a direct threat to countries on our Eastern border.
Our solidarity with every Member State exposed to these threats is absolute.
And our response must match the urgency.
Europe is investing massively in anti-drone capabilities, air defence and early warning systems.
SAFE will help build a stronger Romania.
And a stronger Europe.
Poland, Baltic states, now Romania. More and more Russian provocations. Yesterday the former president @MedvedevRussiaE said that the peaceful sleep of the EU citizens is over. Everyone in NATO should finally start taking these facts and words seriously.
Russia’s war is not distant. It is real, and Romanians feel its effects directly.
Hybrid warfare means drones, cyberattacks, disinformation, and psychological intimidation, all aimed at weakening our societies.
Three things are clear:
1. Anyone who cannot say “Russia is the aggressor” is accomplice.
2. The SAFE programme, including anti-drone capabilities, helps protect us. Anyone who blocks it is accomplice.
3. Defending Ukraine means defending ourselves.
Why does the bell curve show up everywhere? Whether in heights, test scores, stock returns, and measurement errors?
If you Roll a single die. You get 1 through 6 with equal probability.
That's a flat, uniform distribution — nothing special.
Now roll two dice and add them. Suddenly 7 is more likely than 2 or 12, because there are more ways to make 7. The distribution starts forming a triangle shape.
Roll 5 dice and add them. It starts looking like a hill.
Roll 10 dice and add them. It looks almost exactly like a bell curve.
You never changed the die. Each die is still perfectly uniform. But something remarkable happened when you started adding them together.
This is the Central Limit Theorem.
It says - take any random variable — it doesn't matter what distribution it follows and add together a large number of independent samples from it. The distribution of that sum will always approach a normal distribution.
Always. Regardless of the original shape.
Whenever a quantity is the result of many small independent effects piling on top of each other, the CLT kicks in and forces a normal distribution to emerge.
CLT is one of the most beautiful results in all of mathematics. And it's hiding behind almost everything.
Europe's biggest new gas project just started drilling.
First gas in 2027🧵
Neptun Deep.
160 km offshore Romania in the Black Sea.
100 bcm of recoverable gas across two fields Domino and Pelican South.
Operators: OMV Petrom and Romgaz, 50/50.
Total capex: up to €4 billion.
Construction is now fully underway across 3 workstreams simultaneously:
→ First development well spudded at Pelican South. 10 production wells planned total.
→ 160 km, 30-inch subsea pipeline under construction. Saipem holds a $1.75 bn contract.
→ Neptun Alpha production platform being fabricated in Indonesia. Topsides complete. Sail away planned for 2026.
At plateau, the field will produce 8 bcm/year.
Romania's entire current domestic output is 9.2 bcm/year.
Neptun Deep alone will nearly double the country's gas production and turn it into a net exporter.
With Groningen gone and Russian pipeline supply structurally curtailed, the EU has very few large indigenous gas additions arriving this decade.
Neptun Deep is one of them.
Surplus volumes are expected to flow toward Moldova, Slovakia, Hungary and Germany via existing interconnectors.
Romania is on track to become the largest gas producer in the EU.
