Eddie talking about Chris after his passing.. this is really shattering in multiple ways.

Eddie basically says he can’t allow himself to feel the full force of the loss - which I relate to tenfold. Sometimes the hurt is so bad that you almost don’t ALLOW yourself the choice to feel the weight of it all.

Because it might actually break you.

So you protect yourself almost involuntarily.

Man.. this really makes me feel for Eddie. And now Glen as well.. it’s been a long journey for him. I hope he’s ok.

Sometimes I would wonder if Glen Hansard really existed….

Seriously, he was such an angelic presence… not otherworldly…in fact, very present this presence…
A smiling rascal if you needed him to be… this most musical and mischievous archangel of Ballymun… no airs, plenty of graces...

Of course, Glen was the shining star of the Christmas Eve busk… sometimes the only one reminding the rest of us that Christmas began with a refugee born in a manger, which is hardly a step from living on the street.

To be utterly yourself by being more interested in others - a clue for any of us trying out different personas. He really was who you thought he was. He could never walk by a person living rough without checking they were OK… and more than that, he worked very hard so that less people had to live on the streets in the first place.

When the crowds got bigger and for safety’s sake Glen had to agree to move the busk to a stage kindly provided outside The Gaiety Theatre, he would say 'we’ll give it our best but it’s not a busk if we’re not on the street!’ …because that’s who he was - a performer at eye level in any situation. The stage was a separation he wouldn’t recognize. Of all the grand and gigantic venues he and The Frames played, you sensed the street was his most favoured place to perform. And street people, his favourite audience.

Voice of the streets. A choir of angels in one man. The rest of us blessed to stand there beside our very own and very earthed Angel Gabriel… All of us welcome in his choir, whatever shape or form.

….and I’m telling myself this morning that if he never existed, then he can never cease to exist. For me, he will always be everywhere I see a coin spinning into an open guitar case.

May you rest in the peace you gave to so many.

Oscar winner Glen Hansard ("Once") has died in a motorcycle crash at 56 years old. He won the Academy Award for best original song with "Falling Slowly."

“With broken hearts we announce the passing of Glen Hansard who passed away, in the early hours of this morning, following a road traffic accident in Dublin," a statement from his agency reads. "Glen’s family is deeply shocked and heartbroken by this tragic loss and respectfully requests privacy at this extremely difficult time. The family is grateful for the support they have received and wishes to thank the emergency services who attended the scene."

Colin Vearncombe composed "Wonderful Life" in just 10 minutes in one of the worst periods of life: divorce, two car accidents, a sick mother, with no home and almost no money. The title "Wonderful Life" is totally ironic, Colin was being sarcastic about the "wonderful" life, but the audience interpreted it as positive. First released in 1986 on Ugly Man Records, it reached #72 on the UK Singles Chart. Mueren casi cien de tortugas marinas recién nacidas en negocio familiar de la alcaldesa morenista de Isla Mujeres

Casi cien tortugas recién nacidas murieron por no poder llegar al mar y estar expuestas al calor, en uno de los programas de “rescate de huevos” que la alcaldesa morenista Atenea Gómez Ricalde.

Que utiliza para seguir entreteniendo turistas para que paguen y liberen  tortugas en Playa Media Luna en Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo.

Su madre Alicia Ricalde Magaña en 2011, antes de concluir su administración también como presidenta municipal de Isla Mujeres, tramitó permisos en SEMARNAT para para mantener en cautiverio tortugas marinas y el aprovechamiento de otras especies. 

Asi empezó a funcionar “Tortugranja” que mantiene sus permisos vigentes a pesar de que se ha documentado el maltrato de animales. 

Alicia Ricalde también cuenta con uno de los permisos para el aprovechamiento para venta de pepino de mar (Isostichopus fuscus), una especie protegida de alto valor comercial.

Ambos permisos tienen como referencia Tortugranja que estaba bajo la administración del Ayuntamiento de Isla Mujeres pero cuyo beneficios mercantiles están a nombre de Alicia Ricalde.

Cuando Tortugranja cerró al público en septiembre de 2021, ya que el predio es de INAPESCA y no les renovaron el convenio de uso.

Las tortugas marinas permanecieron en las instalaciones por meses y no existe información pública de qué pasó con ellas, y la “protección” de los nidos se trasladó a corrales temporales en Playa Media Luna. 

Lejos de dar por terminado el proyecto, Atenea Gómez convirtió su recuperación de Tortugranja en una prioridad de su gobierno. 

En 2023, tras obtener de SEMARNAT el Acuerdo de Destino del predio federal, anunció la reapertura de Tortugranja y que los recursos provenientes de la tasa turística se destinarían a rehabilita a “fortalecer el programa de conservación de tortugas marinas”.

Bajo ese argumento se han retenido ejemplares adultos, se han extraído huevos y se han promovido liberaciones de crías como actividad turística.

La temporada de anidación es solo un negocio.
Alicia Bárcena debe explicar si SEMARNAT revisó las autorizaciones y el funcionamiento del programa que opera alrededor de este lugar.

Mariana Boy debe informar cuándo fue la última inspección de PROFEPA, qué encontró y si ya inició un procedimiento por la muerte de estas tortugas.

La conservación de especies en peligro de extinción no puede convertirse en un negocio familiar protegido por permisos administrativos.
