I need to see something beautiful every single day or I'm gonna lose it. Exegete of beauty and culture. Quality human touch on keyboard, fingers slip at times.
The reason you lose beauty, strength, vitality, and health with age is to help you realize that wisdom comes with such a price. You can't truly value it unless you gain it through the loss of all that once seemed permanent.
@KeenanPeachy The other side of the coin is that they may have deeper relationships with fewer peers, quality over quantity? Trying to see the bright side in this darkness.
A lot of our own culture is shaped by the people we meet. I’ve met an incredibly diverse range of people, all from backgrounds that would rarely intersect, which made the experience especially enriching.
At one point I was close to people my age who were really into old-time radio shows and Golden Age Hollywood. Think Liz Taylor but also the silent era with Doug Fairbanks and Mary Pickford.
Because they were into it I absorbed a lot of it almost like a cultural novelty. I listened to a lot of old-time radio shows like The Jack Benny Show (Lucky Strike sponsored them hehe, X-Minus One and Lights Out. In a way it helped me learn English and gave me a broader vocabulary which was already fairly extensive partly because so many English words come from French anyway.
I really see how younger generations including people here on X are terrible at interacting well irl. When you don't meet people and learn to interact with those who are very different from you you're truly missing out on a huge part of the human experience which shapes us through discomfort and unfamiliarity.
I was talking about this with my sister yesterday. When I was a child, I was very aware of who Errol Flynn, Cary Grant, Rudolf Valentino, Joan Crawford & Bette Davis were. I listened to the Benny Goodman orchestra and could sing songs by Cole Porter, Noël Coward or Carlos Gardel. I read loads and loads of books from all eras, from my Pocket Collins poetry anthology of sonnets that I carried with me everywhere, to Henry Miller's Tropics.
For children and young people today, History began in the year 2000. They either don't know or don't care and are historically illiterate.

@Sahagkib Very true! I like to explain it simply, you're either in the "self validation" lane or "self-improvement" lane, it's simplified but it helps...a lot of people are in self-validation without realizing.
