From the directors of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island is already earning major festival buzz.
The film received a 5-minute standing ovation at Annecy, with early reactions praising its emotional story, expressive visuals, 90s music, and rich use of Philippine mythology.
Directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, Forgotten Island is set in the Philippines during the 1990s and follows two childhood friends, Jo and Raissa, as their bond is tested when Raissa prepares to move to the U.S.
The film also features H.E.R., Dave Franco, and Lea Salonga, who voices the Dreaded Manananggal, a terrifying villain inspired by Filipino folklore.
Early reactions say the movie is heartfelt, visually stunning, and already feels like a DreamWorks classic in the making.
The stage is set for the next generation of P-Pop.

What a stellar night with @RIEHATAQUEEN & @SB19Official! 💫💃 Absolutely starstruck by the incredible talents of our rising 🇯🇵 & 🇵🇭 dancers during this exciting #PHJP70 cultural collaboration. Here’s to a shining example that music & dance knows no borders. Sobrang galing!
So as an international SB19 fan, I was excited and curious about the song SB19 will cover (Mga Kababayan Ko - M Francis) for the Forgotten Memories animation. Im Pacific Islander so I feel the excitement Filipinos have for the film because I was the same with Moana. I listened and looked up the lyrics and its English translations and wow😭 Reading the lyrics really had me emotional. What a beautiful song and I just know SB19 felt so honoured to cover this song for an amazing film. Like look at these lyrics!
My Countrymen
All of you should know
I’m proud of my colour
I am Filipino
If there’s black or there’s white
There’s also brown/tan
Think that you can
Reach your aspirations
We should strive as not to suffer
Do well in your work
Because if you want it, you can do it
If you can do it, so can he/she
And we both can do it
Our own are capable
Always keep that in mind
Success can be reached
If you’re ready to endure
Through the hardship and exhaustion of problems
Don’t drown
Come up to surface
Don’t sink
Because relief will be next
Avoid envy
You covet those of others
When instead you should be happy for the blessing your fellow man receives
“Ang sa iba’y ibig mong
makamit - Dapat nga ika’y matuwa sa
napala ng iyong kapatid” (fav line coz i seen the crab mentality too much)
I want to let you know
That we’re all in this together
To everyone who made this possible for SB19, thank you. To A’tin, thank you. I can’t wait to watch it.

Two things I will say at this point…
1. @SB19Official’s cover of Francis M’s Mga Kababayan is ABSOLUTE FIRE 🔥🔥🔥 As in your ATIN heart will not be able to contain your excitement when you hear it in #ForgottenIsland 💙
2. When I pushed for #SB19InForgottenIsland last year, #SB19 were not yet part of the film/soundtrack at that time. It wasn’t a marketing gimmick where I already knew the outcome. So SLMT as always #ATIN 🙏
