280 characters is nowhere near enough to describe the privilege it has been to cover Cornell women's hockey for these past three seasons.
It's hard to believe this is my final women's hockey gamer for @DailySunSports, but it's been an incredible ride:

PWHL teams have until 3 pm today to sign free agents they want to protect from expansion. Each team's 3-player protected list is due shortly after at 5 pm.
Some notables who have yet to officially be signed: Renata Fast, Daryl Watts, Taylor Heise, Kelly Pannek and Hilary Knight.
ICYMI: Last week I ranked the top 12 goals from the NCAA season. From crazy tip-ins to video game dekes, there was no shortage of incredible goal scoring efforts. Take a look and let me know if you agree with the rankings!
Assuming that the Torrent are also going to protect Hillary Knight, that means either Hannah Bilka or Julia Gosling will be available to expansion franchises.
JUST IN: The #SeattleTorrent have signed Alex Carpenter to a 3-year deal. The Torrent have also now protected her from the expansion distribution process
My #VancouverGoldeneyes protection picks:
Jaques
Nurse*
Maschmeyer
If Nurse won’t sign, pick one of the following:
Gardiner
Daniel
Thompson*
Campbell

BREAKING:
Toss out the 10-player "Negotiation List."
According to a communication sent by the PWHLPA to players, and contradictory to the PWHL's expansion manual, all players on expiring contracts are now free to negotiate with all teams today.
https://t.co/Yro0BSew2D #PWHL
All PWHL teams - including expansion teams - can negotiate with specific players beginning at 12 pm ET today.
• Existing teams may contact players on their 10-player negotiation list, plus their own free agents
• Expansion teams may contact any player who appears on any 10-player neg list
• Agreements can be made between existing teams and a player, but the player has to be on their 10-player neg list. Contracts won't be processed until the signing period begins tomorrow at 12 pm ET

If this is what Ottawa does, expect Rory Guilday to be on the move! A hard-hitting, lockdown young defender like Guilday is a perfect target for an expansion team.
Alright Ottawa Charge fans, here you go, the three players I believe the team should, and will, protect.

The 2026 PWHL Draft will be six rounds. Missed that confirmation when going through the expansion details.
This means the June 17 draft will see 72 players selected.
For context, 42 players were drafted in 2024, and 48 were drafted in 2025. Significant jump.
@RF_Journo Yes, I think that’s the main takeaway! The expansion teams don’t really factor into Phase 1. They can negotiate with free agents, but can’t sign any.
Not too much new here, but the fact that each team can only lose one player during Phase 1 means that big names looking to leave their teams could sign almost immediately. Also, any Phase 1 signing "automatically counts as one of the existing team’s three protections."

@RF_Journo From what I’m understanding, each team protects three players at the end of Phase 1. During Phase 1, teams can sign players on expiring contracts and those signings will automatically count as one of the three protected players.
