El segundo capítulo de YO CANTO llega veinte años después del primero — esta vez, dedicado a algunas de las canciones que más he amado de artistas españoles, latinoamericanos y americanos. veinte años en los que hemos cambiado, crecido y vuelto a enamorar de la música. hoy, igual que en aquel momento,  mi única motivación y razón para rendir tributo a una canción, a su autor o a quien la interpreta es: el amor. cantamos para poner la música como protagonista, para convertirnos en la voz de un sentimiento poderoso. elegimos dar un paso atrás como compositores… para dar un paso gigante hacia adelante como seres humanos. lo hacemos por una razón visceral y verdadera: defender lo que creemos.
en este álbum, me siento como juana de arco (sin armadura… ¡pero con un micrófono en la mano!), porque cuando la música me llama, yo respondo. estoy lista para defender sin miedo todo lo que amo. yo creo en las canciones. creo en la música. la música debe ser protegida por quienes viven por ella. porque puede ser acusada, juzgada, malinterpretada o subestimada. pero nosotros, los artistas, estamos aquí para protegerla. somos un ejército desarmado, armado solo con la belleza del arte, que sigue siendo el arma más revolucionaria de todas.
En un verso de Gialal al-Din Rumi se lee:

“Más allá de las ideas del bien y del mal,
hay un campo.
allí te encontraré.”

la vida te lleva a descubrir muchas cosas…algunas hermosas, otras difíciles de aceptar.
palabras y juicios que no reflejan quién eres y que te hieren profundamente.
y cuando te das cuenta de que tienes que defenderte, duele, pero tienes que hacerlo. encontrando una manera de hacerlo sin herir a quienes te hirieron. yo lo hago a través de la música.

The second chapter of yo canto comes twenty years after the first one — this time, it’s dedicated to some of the songs i’ve loved the most by spanish, latin american, and american artists. twenty years in which we’ve changed, grown, and fallen in love with music all over again. today, just like back then, there’s only one reason to pay tribute to a song, its writer, or its performer: love. we sing to put music at the center, to become the voice of a powerful feeling. we choose to take a step back as songwriters… in order to take a gigantic step forward as human beings. we do it for a true, visceral reason: to defend what we believe in. in this album, i feel like Joan of arc (without the armor… but with a microphone in hand!) because when music calls, i answer. ready to fearlessly defend everything i love. and i believe in songs. i believe in music. music must be protected by those who live for it. because it can be accused, judged, misunderstood, underestimated. but we as artists are here to protect it. we are an unarmed army, armed only with the beauty of art — which remains the most revolutionary weapon of all.
In a verso by Gialal al-Din Rumi, it reads:

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field.
i’ll meet you there.”

life leads you to discover many things — beautiful ones, others hard to accept. words and judgments that don’t reflect who you are and that hurt you deeply. and when you realize you have to defend yourself, it’s painful — but you have to do it. finding a way to do so without hurting those who have hurt you. i do it through music.
