@MMGOLFSTUDIOS@summerspritzer @Klyrinn @dsasdas00283030@waitingfordb@justalexoki@thereal0xalice Yes, ofc. No single country has a monopoly of assholes.
I guess the event described by the OP is possibly a one-off thing. Yea, they could have pissed each other off.
So tipping is also optional in the US, customer still free to decide tip amt. no issue then, why all this fuss?
@MMGOLFSTUDIOS@summerspritzer @Klyrinn @dsasdas00283030@waitingfordb@justalexoki@thereal0xalice I see. But this is what is confusing to most outside the US, I think.
If it is not mandatory, why didnt the service staff give him the change when he asked for it & just let him decide to tip or not to tip in whatever amount he wants to give as a tip?
@MMGOLFSTUDIOS@summerspritzer @Klyrinn @dsasdas00283030@waitingfordb@justalexoki@thereal0xalice Of course, u’re allowed. No one is saying otherwise. Just want to understand the culture better.
From the replies here, if I understand correctly, the US culture is to not pay service workers well, that tipping is not a gratituity (optional) but a necessity (mandatory).
@MMGOLFSTUDIOS@summerspritzer @Klyrinn @dsasdas00283030@waitingfordb@justalexoki@thereal0xalice Yes, I understand that ULTIMATELY it is the customers that pay for all the costs (incl wages) the resto incurs. Tipping, at least in most other countries, is a gratituity.
But in the US, they say the service staff are not paid well, thus, tips are a necessity / mandatory? Why?
@summerspritzer @Klyrinn @dsasdas00283030@MMGOLFSTUDIOS@waitingfordb@justalexoki@thereal0xalice So it’s not really about restaurants thin margins & high operating costs, but this tipping system is actually better for the servers than actually having the restaurant owners pay their workers a livable wage?
So it’s the customers responsibility so their workers get paid well?
@summerspritzer@justalexoki@thereal0xalice But why can restaurants in other countries operate profitably without this “tipping” system ?
It is sad that this system is pitting customers versus servers, when it should be the restaurant owners responsibility to pay their workers responsibly & operate profitably.
People who don't know much about clothes always reduce the topic to trends and status signaling. But clothing can illuminate almost any topic about society. 🧵
‘I STILL CAME UP SHORT. I’M SORRY. I APOLOGIZE FOR IT’ 😭
Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena apologized for barely missing the podium of the men’s pole vault final early Tuesday morning.
Obiena wound up fourth in the competition, missing the podium via countback as he failed to clear 5.95 meters.
You’ve made the entire country incredibly proud, EJ!

.@JDVance owner Peter Thiel, says America is like Weimar Germany in the 1920s:
“Liberalism is exhausted… Democracy whatever that is, is exhausted… so we have to start talking far outside the Overton Window.”
Holy shit. He is literally taking Hitler’s side to justify himself.
This was precisely what the Nazis tried to sell to Germans, that Weimar was “too liberal” and needed “strong leadership” to save it from degeneracy. To make this super clear, Thiel’s doing this at a talk to promote German philosopher Carl Schmitt, who was a prominent member of the Nazi Party.

I cannot emphasize enough that this psychopath will be running the country if we don’t protect this election.

In response to the baseless accusations of doping leveled against Chinese athletes, Chinese swimmer Zhang Yufei questioned western media outlets as to why western athletes such as Phelps and Ledecky are not questioned when they perform well, but Chinese athletes who win medals should be questioned.
Zhang claimed that the drug tests had already shown whether or not the Chinese had been "doped". If some people still do not believe that then it is pointless for the Chinese to present more responses.
Chinese people typically adhere to the principle of "息事宁人," which entails avoiding conflict and putting up with unfair treatment in order to ensure everyone's happiness. However, today's youth in China are more likely than older generations to stand up and demand equality. The interview with Pan Zhanle yesterday that revealed prejudice against the Chinese and Zhang's inquiries towards the Western media are two excellent examples.
The younger generation in China is becoming increasingly self-assured and courageous, and they are not afraid to stand out against prejudice and bullying.
I feel proud.
@rowena_guanzon@_rainbowfighter@ImaneKhelif This is disinformation. Am afrraid you & @_rainbowfighter were victims of disinformation going on (a part of a larger Culture War being waged right now).
Everyone must be discerning with info they consume nowadays. It is so easy to fall victim to them. Be more vigilant, pls.
Apartheid-American Elno & his billionaire cohorts, like Natzi Teal, with a dash of 🇷🇺 Ras(put1n) help, are continuing to foment a Culture War in the 🌎. Their war has been waging in the 🇺🇸 for some time.
Why? For Power? Money? But they already have all the💰in the world? 🤔
This is the next talking point for the Trump campaign: Algerian boxer who a) isn't in any way dominant in the sport, b) isn't transsexual, and c) is in no way connected to the US or American politics.
It's almost like they're grasping at straws here.
@catsarecows @stargirl2050 Engaging with good faith, how is it well implied? Yes, for some reason, I can not see that implication. Where in the post literally describes the poor?
