IM SO THRILLED about the upcoming changes to carousel of progress after reading about it!
It was in desperate need of some updates and I’m so optimistic and excited about what’s to come.
It closes on July 5, 2026 to return fresh and new in 2026.
This is probably the best news I’ve heard all month. Anyone who’s whining about this… WHY?! The attraction is called Carousel of PROGRESS. PROGRESS IS IN THE NAME. IT HAS TO CHANGE BE SO REAL WITH YOURSELF
The staircase that lead up to Progress City from center stage of the closing Act of Carousel of Progress still absolutely fascinates me.

@dsnymike it was a time capsule for you, but that was not the original intent of the ride. It’s normal to be sad it’s changing. It’s also okay to feel uneasy about changes! From what I have heard, I think they’re going to nail this one. And if they don’t, please drag me for being a fool.
@ScottGustin@Savethedmagic Like Tomorrowland, the Carousel of Progress is not a set it and forget type of attraction. The fact is, every iteration of the show has seen dwindling attendance over time, including the Disneyland original. It should have been retooled and adjusted more often than it has.
@CoasterK24 I say try to trust the process with this one.
We don’t know what the end result will be, but Kevin & Jody who did the poster said the creative team have a deep passion for the NYWF version of the show and for me that’s all the criteria I need to know they care. 🩵🧡
@CoasterK24 I can understand that! I fully agree with you and would have loved to see an effort to at least keep the 1890s scene and maybe make it a 30-40 year gap rather than 15-20.
But I prefer this new iteration over the alternative of what happened to Horizons and Imagination.
@CoasterK24 I appreciate any elaboration to make me see otherwise.
But I’m standing firm in the belief that of all rides, the Carousel of PROGRESS should not be a museum piece. It’s lack of updates in the last 30 years that made everyone think this is the way it should remain.
People saying that “all Carousel of Progress needed was an updated final scene.”
So… you want an even wider gap between Acts III and IV…? 🤨
I don’t understand how anyone can justify the 60+ year jump from the 1940s to the Present/Future. This overhaul is more than necessary.
This was this month. May 2026. I never once outside of the closing night, saw the original country bears this packed and lively.
Unless you have evidence to back up your claims, not everything is Tiana’s
The funny thing is. She was actually the narrator of the final scene in the OG carousel in the 60s. She was so excited to share all the wonders of the future John barely could barely get a word in.
So I find it strange that they say this will be the first time
Hot take: Carousel of Progress was always meant to update and evolve. Management letting it rot for 30 years has created the illusion that Walt wanted a museum piece about what GE electronics were like in the 1920s to permanently live in…Tomorrowland
Can we all find some common ground today with your CoP convos?
All the Disney fans you’ll be interacting with today care about Walt’s legacy just as much as you. They will defend his legacy to death just like you. The difference will be how each feel is the best way to do it.
I think this is a necessary evil.
We’ve reached the point where most guests aren’t old enough to remember any decade the attraction represents.
If it’s going to stay relevant for all guests and not just the uber fans / history buffs, the timeline has to move forward.
