๐จ Roy Keane on Argentina vs. Egypt:
โOnce is a mistake. Twice, maybe. But when it keeps happening, you have to start asking questions. An Argentina player appeared to slap an Egypt player, and the referee ignored it. There was a foul in the penalty areaโat least go and review it.
Thatโs what VAR is there for. If youโre only reviewing incidents for one team, then whatโs the point? It felt like Argentina started the game with an advantage before a ball was even kicked, and thatโs the referee. Thatโs not how football should work.โ
๐จ๐๏ธSergio Ramos ๐ด
"To be honest, I don't really care about this World Cup anymore. It doesn't feel like a real World Cup to me. Football should be decided by the players on the pitch, not by inconsistent officiating and endless controversy. Every match seems to bring more questionable decisions, and that's taking the joy away from the game.
The biggest concern isn't moneyโit's the growing belief that poor officiating and the lack of accountability are damaging the tournament. When fans around the world keep asking the same questions after every match, football has a serious problem to address. If FIFA wants to protect the integrity of the game, it must ensure fairness, transparency, and consistent refereeing for every team."
Pierluigi Collina, widely considered the greatest referee in football history, comments on the disallowed Egypt goal by VAR:
"I assure you that if it had been Argentina's goal, it would have stood.
โช๏ธIf this had happened in the English Premier League, La Liga, or Serie A, it would have stood even after a VAR review.
โช๏ธThis tournament has recently seen many inconsistencies! VAR and the referee should have consulted them; there were two clear penalties for Egypt before Argentina's third goal!
โช๏ธThe correct score is 3-2 for Egypt, not the other way around.
โช๏ธThe referee of the Egypt-Argentina match should be ashamed of himself."
๐จFabio Capello on the officiating in Argentina vs Egypt:
๐ฃ๏ธ โI have no problem accepting defeat when the better team wins.
What I cannot accept is inconsistency.
Egypt scored a goal that looked perfectly legitimate, yet VAR searched every possible angle until it found a reason to rule it out. Later, when Egypt were asking for major decisions inside Argentinaโs penalty area, that same level of investigation disappeared. That is what frustrates players, coaches and supporters.
Football is built on trust. If one incident deserves three minutes of review, then every major incident deserves the same attention. You cannot apply one standard to one team and a different standard to another. That is where people begin to question the integrity of the decisions.
Argentina have world-class players. Nobody doubts that. Messi, Martรญnez and the rest have enough quality to win matches on their own. But when controversial decisions repeatedly fall in one direction, it becomes impossible to ignore the conversation. Egypt earned the right to lose because Argentina were betterโnot because the biggest moments seemed to be interpreted differently.
The saddest part is that tonight people will remember the referee more than the football. Egypt leave with disappointment, but also with unanswered questions. And whenever supporters spend more time discussing officiating than the players, football itself has failed.โ
๐จ๐๏ธ Toni Kroos on the standard of officiating at the World Cup ๐ด
"Every day it's the same conversationโpoor officiating, controversial decisions, and one team feeling punished while another escapes for similar incidents. When that keeps happening, people naturally begin to question the credibility of the tournament.
Football is built on fairness. Fans can accept defeat, but it's much harder to accept inconsistency. If trust in the refereeing continues to disappear, the competition itself will lose the respect it has earned over generations.
No nation wants to feel like they're travelling across the world only to be treated unfairly. If teams and supporters start believing the outcome is already decided before a ball is kicked, then the spirit of competition is gone.
FIFA must protect the integrity of the game. The World Cup should always be remembered for great footballโnot endless debates about referees and controversial decisions."
If they continue like this I see many countries pulling out of next world cup, because they will feel there's no need of competing since they decide the winner before the game is even played, people are seriously losing interest on the tournament.
