Extraordinary how all of the signs of a syzygy are slowly—quite slowly—begin to combine. I suspect, no, I *believe*, that some occult crisis is building, possibly to the harm of my friends at Collinwood. I must research.
@Reverend_Trask I smile at the irony of my guest’s words. Then I straighten the blankets so he will sleep comfortably, and return to my correspondence with Adam.
@Reverend_Trask “The Collins line is filled with sinners who repented, men and women who committed evil deeds, but sought amendment of life, and those who sought to serve the Good. So very hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. I leave that to the Unmanifest. I merely help where I can.”
@Reverend_Trask “I protect her for now, because she is on a path toward a better life. I do not wage war against those who seek redemption. I aid them, if I can.” I light a pipe, breathe in the smoke. “If she becomes a menace, then I would oppose her, even to the death if need be.”

@Reverend_Trask “Ah, that is something we share, then. An awareness of the utility of learning as we seek to defeat the dark forces of the Devil. I’m glad of this collection, you know,” I ran my fingers against the well loved spines. “Very fond of it indeed.”
@Reverend_Trask “You have sacrificed your life? Yet you stand before me, alive, breathing, restored, and with ungodly power, Reverend. How can your changed self pursue evil, and serve good? Mrs Devlin lives a quiet, harmless life, is there no foe worthy of your steel to be sniffed out?”
@LauraCollinsRP@RogerCo05129204 “I know, and I daresay I have been presumptuous, Mrs Collins. But if I can be of any assistance to you both, treat me like a friend—draw upon me.” I leave, keenly aware that I have strained the lady’s patience. I can only hope that I have been of some use.
As I step enter the Great House, I wonder why I am here. @LauraCollinsRP leads me to her ex-husband’s bedroom. Apparently, Collinwood’s most sardonic skeptic wishes to see me. The bedrooom is large, open, and airy. The man seated in the chair is wan, but alert, even resolute.
@LauraCollinsRP@RogerCo05129204 “So if Roger succumbs to fear, let him see that you love him. I think he’ll respond well to that.” I pause once more. “And please don’t be concerned about my knowledge. I’m a friend.”

@LauraCollinsRP@RogerCo05129204 I realized that I needed to be more direct. “Mrs Collins, the essence of the Phoenix is love, not hatred. That is what Roger has discovered through being with you, and he’d already discovered his love for David when you last left.”

@LauraCollinsRP@RogerCo05129204 “Which means he knows of your presence in 1897–and he accepts you, just as you are.” I weigh my next words carefully. “Roger Collins learned courage because his cowardice shamed him. He learned to truly love because you came back for David, and he knew to trust you with him.”

@LauraCollinsRP@RogerCo05129204 “I’m sure Roger can help with David, but, if I may, I’d suggest that sharing more information with Roger, rather than less, is the better approach. You see, he dug quite deeply into the family history in trying to decide if seeing you was wise for David on your return.”

@LauraCollinsRP@RogerCo05129204 “Get another Doctor, then. Is it Woodard he’s been seeing? Bah, no bottom, that’s his problem. Get Hoffman in; Julia knows her business—and if I’m right about anxiety, and repression, she’s your best bet.”
@LauraCollinsRP@RogerCo05129204 “Oh, yes, he’ll be fine. He’s in a very deep sleep, and after all the anxiety hes been carrying,I can’t think there’s anything better for him right now than rest.” I pause. “And may I ask how you are holding up, Mrs Collins?”
