Why policymakers should prioritize expanding the #childtaxcredit in the 2025 tax debate:
Parent Kali Daugherty: “It feels like such a privilege to raise children without a struggle. With the cost of living going up as much as it has, it’s just very difficult.”

America's families need an expanded #ChildTaxCredit. @ABC__Coalition Parent Advisory Board member Raegen Selden told @CBSNews why: "We want [our kids] to grow up to be great, productive citizens in this country. You can't do that if they can't eat." Read: https://t.co/9wIJnudduo
In interviews with 45 parents and our survey of over 1,900 parents in the midst of the 2021 CTC expansion, we heard that the monthly payments of $250-$300 were extremely helpful.
But they need more to achieve real economic security. The amount most parents named: $500/month.
In the debate last night, Harris mentioned her proposal to expand the #CTC up to $6k for children in their first year
This $6k benefit level aligns very closely with what we heard parents and caregivers need in our research in 2021 and 2022.

Today Census data showed SPM child poverty at 13.7 percent.
Expanding the #ChildTaxCredit alone would bring child poverty down to 8.6 percent.
We've done it before, we can do it again!
