@MariaMalovaEU@NEP_Brussels@sherwood_chris It was great meeting you yesterday and to talk about the opportunities and challenges of scaling up permanent carbon removals! Looking forward to continuing this very important dialogue
(1) On World Environment Day yesterday, UN Secretary General António Guterres highlighted the great need to do more on CDR. This recognition is a huge step forward & now it's up to governments to step up in creating enabling policies for the sector
(3) "But let me be clear: These technologies are not a silver bullet; they cannot be a substitute for drastic emissions cuts or an excuse to delay fossil fuel phase-out. But we need to act on every front."
EU States discuss the Green Claims Directive this week! 53 groups urged clear rules supporting #CDR investment advocating for:
✅ Compensation claims for corporate emissions
🌱 High-quality carbon credits
💡 Co-claiming for public-private finance in CDR.

Looking forward to moderating this webinar on the upcoming EU elections and what it means for carbon removal policy. Join us on 29th April at 3pm - you can register here https://t.co/SNpfuWOyma
The upcoming European Parliament elections will shape climate policy for the next five years, offering a chance to integrate carbon removals into the EU's climate framework.

Huge congrats to @CarbonGap on launching their #CDRStrategy. This publication is very timely. There is an urgent need to boost funding & demand in CDR (both in the short & long term), establish separate CDR targets, and ensuring fair & inclusive governance https://t.co/viX6oLcnEQ
We have an agreement!
Carbon Removals are moving forward! The Parliament and the Council reached an agreement that will prevent greenwashing and foster private investment in carbon removals and develop voluntary carbon markets! Proud of this and of being the rapporteur on this!
We welcome the publication of the 2040 Climate Target and ICMS Communications. There is a need for a definitive political signal, enhanced financing mechanisms leveraging the Voluntary Carbon Market, and a tech-neutral, portfolio approach to ensure climate targets are reached.
@MEP_Ehler @EUCouncil We've also noticed the same trend for carbon removal companies, I've spoken to several companies who have / are looking to move to the US because of how challenging permitting is in the EU
The European Commission is set to recommend a 90% net emissions reduction goal in its bluenprint for 2040, in line with advice of the scientific board on climate. The policy paper is due to be adopted on Feb. 6.

👏 Denmark 🇩🇰, Finland 🇫🇮, and Panama 🇵🇦 have launched the Group of Negative Emissions, which “has decided to set the ultimate goal: to remove more carbon dioxide, the main source of global warming, from the atmosphere than they emit.”

🌍 Join the call for action! Over 114 organisations have already signed an open letter calling for tech-neutrality in the Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF)

Our NEP Policy Officer, Elisabeth Harding, is attending the #CCUS Forum in #Aalborg.
She says, "the EC can leverage the Industrial Carbon Management Strategy to fill the gaps in advancing #CDR. It's crucial to establish consistent regulations and invest in #CDR initiatives."
Interesting insights from @undocarbon and @planetary_tech's webinar on CDR solutions for businesses. By 2030, a supplier crunch is looming as demand for carbon remvoals will surpass supply. Investing in and scaling up permanent CDR now is integral to meet this expected demand
🇪🇺 MEPs have adopted their position on the CRCF. Some positive changes to the Com's proposal e.g. use cases & calling for an EU carbon removal target. This is being overshadowed though by the narrow definitions of carbon removals & permanent carbon storage

🚨The UN has warned that the world is on track for a “hellish” 3C of global heating. The consequences are unimaginable. The need to act has become even more urgent, meaning significant emissions reductions globally & deploying permanent carbon removals
