Beloved The Nightmare Before Christmas voice actor, William Hickey passed away 29 years ago, today would've been his 99th birthday 🎂🕊️

That creaky, eccentric voice behind Halloween Town’s resident mad scientist belonged to William Hickey.

As Dr. Finkelstein in The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hickey gave Sally’s possessive creator a voice as strange and memorable as his hinged skull and wheelchair-bound laboratory persona. Although the film officially credited the character simply as the “Evil Scientist,” audiences came to know him as Dr. Finkelstein, one of Halloween Town’s most distinctive residents.

Hickey’s career, however, stretched far beyond animation. His weathered voice and unconventional screen presence made him especially memorable as eccentric, irritable, and often macabre characters, while his performance as Don Corrado Prizzi in Prizzi’s Honor earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
