Mamdani: Make no mistake about it. The refusal to renew this contract with providers who specialize in this work is nothing less than a deportation order for children as young as five years old. I know that there are some on the right who may delight in that.
And yet what could be less American than depriving those within our justice system of the fundamental right to due process? What is more antithetical to our values than targeting defenseless children?
I’m seeking an official oversight visit with a bipartisan Senate Delegation to the USS Lincoln to investigate the reported alarming conditions.
Unlike Donald Trump, I've seen active duty. The way he's treating our service members as he carries out this illegal war is not just disgusting; it’s dangerous. These sailors are owed a sense of when they will go home.
The stories of crew members threatening to jump off the ship are a frightening alarm bell as to how bad the situation has become: moldy showers, sporadic hot water, rationed meals and soap, broken toilets, and grueling 12- to 16-hour shifts with no days off.
Congress must do its duty to provide oversight and hold the administration accountable for these actions.

Grace Ortega joined the Army in 2024 in part because of a program promoted by the military that protects immediate family members from deportation.
When her father was deported on July 4, she felt a sense of betrayal. https://t.co/fhlt6jH2Bd
ICE agent Adam Saracco pleads GUILTY in Illinois after throwing an activist to the ground at a Chicago gas station.
An important development in the push for justice and accountability when it comes to ICE violence in our country.
The commander in chief is the most important person on any American aircraft, and his safety must take precedence over all other concerns or interests.
But if the situation was that dangerous, why send up the first 747 at all?

Mamdani: Today, as a result of this decision, children who have fled violence, trafficking, war, and abuse will walk into courtrooms alone. Children.
And they have been alone before. Many of them had no other option but to travel here by themselves across thousands of miles. When they made it here to our city, they thought that maybe the worst would be behind them, that things would be different.
But now they will stand alone again as they face attacks from a trained government attorney across the aisle whose sole objective is to deport them back to the place they endured so much to escape. Some of these children are teenagers. Some are 10 years old. Some are five years old. Some are even younger. Many do not yet even speak the language in which they are to defend themselves.
And even if they do, these are children that we are speaking about. They do not know how to navigate a courtroom. They do not know how to fill out an asylum application. They do not know how to ask for relief. They do not know how to gather evidence or to plead their case. And yet the consequences that they will face simply for coming to this country in search of a better life will be immediate and severe.
Without legal representation, fewer than one percent of immigrant children are granted immigration relief. The federal government will tell you that they have fulfilled this contract with other legal service providers, yet they have selected firms that lack the credibility and the seriousness to protect these children. Take one organization whose founder and former CEO, a retired ICE agent, resigned due to sexual misconduct allegations.
A senior DHS official tells me all ICE officers will begin wearing zap gloves to deliver non-lethal electric shock on people resisting arrest by the end of September.
i learned yesterday that big bend is the certified largest dark sky on earth. this is what they’re destroying. this is what texas is losing, what the world is losing.
There have reportedly been multiple attempts by sailors to jump overboard the USS Lincoln as poor conditions and mental stress reach a breaking point
The crew is in its ninth month at sea, and has spent 250 days consecutively without making land, a record https://t.co/iRuvYznj49

Big crowd today at Santa Elena Canyon. They're protesting DHS's bulldozing of Big Bend National Park for border construction just downstream of here.
"No road. No wall. No wire. No way," is echoing off 1500-ft cliffs that make up the border, where it's truly impossible to cross.
Mamdani: I'm sure many of us have seen the video of a Haitian man collapsing to the floor when he reckons with the fact that he has to leave this country… These are horrific decisions that are being made at the federal level.
Read this piece and then imagine being this family that has done everything right, followed all the rules, and is being punished for nothing. The Trump/Stephen Miller immigration policy is just endless torture of innocent people.
Hunter Biden: “What Elon Musk did to USAID, with the complicity and direction of Donald Trump, is akin to genocide. Look at every single study. By 2030, 4M children under the age of 5 will be dead. They will be dead because we took away from them what we had found the funding for, what we had found the political will for, what we had found in alliance with the global community”
HAPPENING NOW: protestors brave the 100+ degree heat in Big Bend to fight DHS border barrier and road construction through the park. Bulldozers are tearing into the national park just a mile downstream. CNN is going live on site.
