From 1740-1834 a series of evil “anti-literacy laws” were passed in the U.S. to prevent slaves from acquiring the ability to read (& the power it gives). Many risked everything & defied the laws (e.g., Frederick Douglass). Here we are in 2026 begging people to read. Astounding.
