NEWS: The NCAA is nearing approval for a “franchise tag” system for college football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball.
Schools would be able to retain one student-athlete on a fully guaranteed 1-year deal, paying top-5 money at their position.
I’m excited to announce that I’ll be continuing my athletic and academic career at the University of Lynchburg. Thank you Coach Scott and staff for the opportunity, go Hornets!
Latest: NCAA President Charlie Baker is pushing for a legal tampering window that would allow coaches to contact players before they officially enter the Transfer Portal, per multiple sources.
The rule would create a designated period prior to the portal opening where communication between coaches and potential transfers is fully permitted, similar to the NFL’s free agency window.
Right now, that contact is not allowed. This proposal would formalize and regulate conversations instead of leaving them unofficial.
During that window:
• Players could speak with programs and understand their options before entering
• Coaches could evaluate and recruit transfers openly and within the rules
The intent is to replace illegal backchannel recruiting with a structured, transparent system.
If passed, it would significantly change the timing and flow of the Transfer Portal.
