Gotta scroll down on the first page or do the survey on a laptop! For HS Life Science teachers. 15-20 minutes on Social Justice Issues and Biology Curriculum

I am looking for High School Life Science Teachers (Biology/Environmental Science) to take a 15-20 minute survey. It will help inform research on Biology curriculum and social justice issues. Thank you for helping me! I really need a few more responses!

@nflynnseattle@CubbageTom#NSTAChat somehow it came up in conversation, that globally lighter people were a minority. Minority identity shifts depending on where you live, and that was mind-blowing to them.
A:5 #NSTAChat Another for questions about skin color : https://t.co/iTiMXOdoxR

@SKGEducator@caahayes I think there will be less of an issue after this, if biologists talk about skin color and freckles, it reinforces the idea that we are all human
#NSTAchat, A:6 If someone's in your room observing, have them count who you call on, gender and color- even social justice oriented teachers end up favoring white males. What can we do to change that?
#NSTAChat-as we go to student centered learning, we have got to create a safe space for students to interact and engage, and that means being okay with growing as a teacher and facilitator.
#NSTAchat A:5 Read the book “about Gender Identity Justice in Schools and Communities” by sj Miller. 80 page, quick read, but really helps you create a positive classroom environment.
#NSTAchat A:4 The disciplinary core ideas relate to the interests and life experiences of students or be connected to societal or personal concerns that require scientific or technological knowledge;LIFE EXPERIENCE leads to more cultural understanding.
#NSTAchat A:3 Clear syllabus statements and procedures at the beginning of the year are a must. Attention to norms and classroom culture throughout the year. Engaging EVERY TIME students say something inappropriate.
#NSTAchat A:2 Project Based Learning could provide a more authentic way for students to advocate. See more at: https://t.co/qM9VA5gT5w If you are going to encourage student advocacy think about how you will handle opinions/ stances that you don’t agree with.
#NSTAChat-A:1 It's okay to work on both classroom practices and content. Like why humans have different skin color. It's a legit biological question we can now have answers to.
A1: part 2 #NSTAChat and many of these questions are set up that pure science can’t answer. Be authentic-explain that you are a person with your own bias that you are working on, and that you don’t have all the answers, and there maybe more than one answer!
A:1 Any and all. It’s important to do your research and push yourself. If they aren’t discussed- you are signaling they don’t exist/are not an issue, and that erases students concern/voice. It’s a good idea to talk about the harm science has done with eugenics,
