May the years ahead be kinder and richer than the ones behind us. May we grow into the people we’re meant to become and may that journey carry us to breathtaking places along the way.
My friend canceled his wedding three days before the ceremony.
Everything was already paid for.
The hall.
The food.
The decorations.
Even guests had traveled from different states.
People were angry.
His fiancée cried nonstop and kept begging him to explain what happened.
But he refused to say anything.
Naturally, everyone blamed him.
“He wasted her time.”
“He embarrassed her publicly.”
“He’s immature.”
Even her family insulted him online.
For weeks, he stayed silent while people destroyed his name.
Then one evening, I finally asked him privately,
“What really happened?”
He looked at me for a long time before handing me his phone.
It was a voice note from his fiancée talking to her best friend.
And one sentence changed everything.
“If the marriage doesn’t work, at least I’ll still benefit financially.”
I froze immediately.
Some people say they owe nobody anything, I can't say the same.
Too many hands have lifted me, I hold it dearly to heart.
I pray I return the favor, when the time comes.
