This is why so many of my cover songs are so far apart and not on Spotify or streaming platforms. It’s a long process to commission a clean background track, record, mix/master, and obtain licenses for distribution. And, it’s incredibly important to go about things the right way.
For those who had any questions / were confused PLEASE READ THIS:
(I got over 70+ DMs and that's more than I can handle...)
If you want to upload your cover song on Spotify, ITunes, Tidal, etc:
1. You will need a distributor. Often times, distributors like Soundrop, Distrokid, etc offer obtaining mechanical licenses as a part of their service. You can also obtain licensing from the MLC: https://t.co/XPOlkS6Xaf
2. You will need a custom instrumental and when uploading, credit the producer, mixer, etc. (Also when you hire someone to create an instrumental, communicate that you want to put it on streaming platforms)
Can I upload a cover song using the original instrumental, vocals, or sample to platforms like Spotify, ITunes, etc?:
9.99/10 NO!!!! If you want to do this, you need exclusive permission from the artist/label.
Do have to have a mechanical license if I'm only uploading it as a YouTube video (+ with original instrumental)?:
Technically no, however 99.9% of the time you cannot monetize it.
Your video will most likely be demonetized (because it's copyrighted material duh), if you're lucky the artist might be nice and allow for shared revenue, or your video will just get blocked in all countries.
I want to hold an IRL concert with cover songs, do I need a special license?:
I'm so glad you asked because actually yes!! This is SO overlooked it scares me.
You will need a Public Performance License (PPL).
Live music venues should already have public performance licenses, but you need to always communicate with the place you are holding the event to ensure licensing is covered and you are allowed to perform covers.
You can obtain a public performance license through ASCAP: https://t.co/Nq5FwIY1n0
I've been distributing music for years and at the end of the day IMO uploading cover songs to streaming platforms is a pain in the ass and expensive (why I personally very rarely do it). You're also most likely going to spend more money to be able to have it on streaming platforms than what you will make from it being on streaming platforms during its lifetime.
Just do your research please👍
VTuber vs. Perfume
Hopping on the trend! I changed perfumes a little over a month ago and I am obsessed with this EDT. It dries down into a warm apricot and almost powdery smelling vanilla once the opening notes fade.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are so back. I am officially out of Girlfailure territory. I got the job offer today after months of searching!
(I can finally afford new art and song covers soon!)
